Free experian 1 month trial at www.credit-expert.co.uk

I signed up for this recently actually just out of interest. Didnt tell me anything exciting TBH. Will all look good if you've always paid off credit cards and phone bills etc on time, and dont have any CCJ's.

It can be quite revealing. I had weird problems with credit (big loans or mortgage not a problem, but couldn't get the interest free credit at curry's ). Turns out my step sister had defaulted on a £200 mobile phone bill while at my parents address using a false name (similar to her own). For some reason she had been linked to my credit file so I was being penalised for her default. I simply had her disassociated from me (and got my dad to give her a bollocking )

Experian and Equifax are the two main (and i think) only credit people that companies use to credit check you,

So get both!

Both will likely have the same details but its better to be safe than sorry!

It also helps you (as mentioned) take other peoples details off your score

The advantage of experians online one is it gives you your credit 'score' which is what companies simply look at to lend you money...instead of hauling through your previous history. Experian can also update you via sms when something changes on your credit file (i.e someone at your address applies for credit, it shows the search and by whom-in terms of the lender)

It will also show you if your being turned down due to possible issues with accuracy on your record...i.e you tell one lender your at an address for 4 years but another 5 and a half because you cant remember

Hope that makes sense
