e-bay - why bid like this?
I am bidding for a roof rack on e-bay. Currently 11 bids. One of the bidders has put in 3 consecutive bids raising the anti each time. Why on earth would he do this or am I missing something here? Thanks, DL

Hold on lads...... I have a hidden max quite a bit higher than current bidding. So when he bids it would tell him that his bid is not high enough I think so why would he proceed with lower bid? Also I think bidding history says it does'nt show automatic bids. But I guess this is not earth shattering!!

Each time he bids, it accepts his bid and raises your bid above his so if you've a max of £20 and he bids £3.99 it raises your bid to £4.00 - like you say not earth shattering stuff
I once went after a Kenwood amp, 5 mins fom end it was £140. I bid constantly at £5 intervals all the way to £210 and was still pipped by the same bidder who must've set a hefty max. Only consolation was that I knew I had cost him an extra £75 for something he would've got for £140

thats a daft way to bid......the person you are against now has a LONG time to realise his max bid id not enough...he can ponder all day before deciding to up his bid...it may not be enough to win but IT WILL push your price up.
there IS NO gain and only loss by bidding more than 30 secs before it goes.....it can ONLY increase either the price or the chance of you getting it.

Another way of looking at it, may be that if you really want a particular item and you know what the top price you're willing to pay is, why worry if the price gets pushed up. You won't pay more than you want to.
If you start putting in last minute bids you might get carried away with the thrill of the chase, and end up bidding more than your top price.
