Noise cancelling earphones

Noise cancelling earphones
Hi All,
I've been banished to London for a while on work so I've converted from scooby to tube user daily. Been using my personal MP3 player but the background noise of the tube makes it difficult to enjoy the music.
Has anyone had any experience of these 'noise cancelling earphones' I read about and if so can you recommend a set that'll satisfy my requirements.
Cheers
Frank

Got a pair of these Sony MDREX1SLB work like a pair of earplugs and block out lots of background noise. They also sound brilliant.
Although the build quality is bad.

BOSE
I've got a pair of BOSE's
Yes they are expensive, yes they are pretty massive on your head, but they are very light and the sound quality is awesome.
Would definately recommend the BOSE's

Or better still get some decent canal phones such as Etymotic ER4,
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.asp
They cancel noise better than any "noise canceling" earphones, sound much better and are more discreet....Do you really want to wear full size earphones on the tube? If you look on ebay you can get these for little over £100 from the States. Thoroughly recommended.

I'll second that Rags - only problem is that they will cancel constant noise (trains, traffic, chatter) but they can't cope with sporadic noise. I tried a pair last year made by HP. Don't know if they ever made it to sale. They use anti-noise and a very high powered processor to listen to the noise that hits the outside of the earphones and produce the exact opposite wavelength to arrive at the same time as the noise arrives. Freaky feeling. You know you can hear something, but it doesn't make a sound. The only issue they hadn't resolved was that they could only get the batteries to last for about 10 minutes. (They were working on a suggested market price of 800 quid )
Bose do about 95% of the job, so they would probably be acceptable

Try www.sensorcom.co.uk and look for "Microbuds" under the motorcycling section.
They go in your ear canal and can be adjusted to filter out more or less background noise. Brilliant device. I use them all the time...

I have a pair of £60 Sony noise cancellers bought onboard on BA - much smaller than the overpriced Bose (who'd buy from a company that is covert & cagey about pricing FFS?). They reduce low freq rumble a lot and make watching movies onboard much better as you are on 1/4 vol compared to flat out with std headphones. Bought the missus 'in-ear' noise cancellers from Panasonic for $45 - USELESS.
If you fly a lot 'in ear' ones are best as you can sleep with them on - looking at Eutopia at the mo...

I use BOSE Tri-port headphones on the tube.
They are not noise cancelling but sound fantastic. They block 95% of outside sound anyway as they are so snug.

Bose = Better of with Something Else!
Sennheiser PXC 250 with NoiseGard Technology are suposed to be really good and for 100 smackers not bad either.
I was going to get the Bose Noise cancelling ones for 275, but they are really worth that etc... so i got Sennheiser PX100 as i did not need noise cancelling ones. and they were only £40 inc p&p from apple.
