Educate their parents and get them to make the kids go to school! I wouldn't dare miss school as a kid even though I didn't want to go because of how my parents would react if they found out.

I wonder if the 1 billion includes the money they were planning to hand out to kids in a loony scheme to bribe them to do something they should be doing anyway!!!

Heres a thought....
A mandatory death penalty for truants. Sure there would be a couple of kids put to death but this would serve to strike terror into the hearts of the others and make them attend. Mum (and Dad) would make damn sure their precious little ones would go to school!! A further benefit of this drastic action would be that the ones killed would be the stupid ones not being educated - a form of pro-active natural selection!
Incidently I am joking before anybody decides to get on their high (hunting) horse

But I fear it still won't work as some parents are still way to thick to realise the consequences, and just think if little Johnny was executed for skiving just think of the extra money the parents would have for ****, booze and gold jewelry etc by not having to pay for food or clothes for him
It would certainly clean up the Gene pool

One day it will become apparent to even the most incompetent NL crony that just throwing our taxes at the problems don't make them go away. You actually have to do something to make it happen as well.
However good they are at talking themselves up, or rather employing someone to do that for them, they have constantly demonstrated that they are incapable of actually producing any kind of a worthwhile result.
Sometimes I wonder if they care anyway, all mouth and trousers won't run a country!

Education Secretary Ruth Kelly
Education Secretary Ruth Kelly
Mrs Kelly: Err Well none that can be detected yet, but we have come up with a new scheme to reclassify many of the truanters as being on a chav apprentice scheme and so can be removed from the numbers.

Who the hell is Ruth Kelly anyway? Another here today, gone tomorrow, incompetent 'on message' New Labour no-mark.
Who was in charge of the rotton mess they call education before her? Oh yes, Charles Clark who is now making an equally useless job of being Home Secretary.
God, we need to be rid of this lot.

Ruth Kelly. Liar?
Amazing: a committee of MPs has just published a report saying that all the millions spent on anti-trunacy measures have had no effect whatsoever, but, of course, SHE'S got a different report that says they are having a wonderful effect
She wouldn't say WHAT report though!
And does anyone else find it strange that the woman appointed to be in charge of STATE education, went right through her own education in the private sector?
And to cap it all, 4 kids or no, SHE LOOKS, AND TALKS, LIKE A BLOKE!!!

And aren't there even more ****e schools this year (per Ofsted) than ever before?
There was a bit of wriggling and spin around 'well, there are bound to be more underperformers as we're getting better at assessing them' -- errrrrr, not sure about that one.
Yet another example of Labour lies and economic waste.
Then there was the 'groundhog day announcement' earlier in the week, announcing a long term plan to get those on incapacity/disabled benefits back to work.....hmmmm, heard that one before (and this category has mainly gone up due to manipulation of the unemployment figures).
How can anyone vote for these clowns????

But because the BBC wants to make sure everyone understands, they treat us to gems like this. I mean, who'd have guessed?
As our colonial friends would say, "Well, duh."

Persistent truants are far less likely to get good GCSEs

£1 Billion, that's about 30,000 more bureaucrats on £33K each.
Now as they reckon there are only 50K or so hard core truanters they could almost employ a minder for every damn one of them to ensure they get to school every day, and stay there.
