The ongoing saga of Pete's drug abuse splits most poeple views about him, personally I dont care that hes a addict I just love the music and think he very talented. Not sure if all the stories about him and Kate Moss are true the tabloids have really jumped on the band waggon this time.

For someone who had tried to get better more than once I think the press should get behind him and try and help him, its not like he needs the The Sun to help sell Libertines cds, or sell his Babyshambles tour dates.

Of course they wont leave it alone as its a good story for a tabloid and it sells papers. Do newspapers go too far when the individual in questions is in such a dodgy state. Artisits such as Pete never invite the media attention - its not their forum.

Unfotunately he's one of those artists that while obviouly brilliant will waste his talent by dying young or sinking into obscurity because no record company will touch him with a barge pole sooner or later. It's a shame because I think he's yet to give us his best work.

There's a bit of a difference between smoking crack and burglary and blackmail, should the allegations prove correct. You wouldn't tolerate a thieving, blackmailing crack-addict working alongside you, however talented they were. If he's guilty he deserves to be punished and the papers have a right to publish on it.

Plenty of other accused people have their names published only to later be found innocent. Being famous or 'talented' (in your opinion - personally it just sounds like he's copied a Smiths album to me) shouldn't protect you from that.

I don't think he's actually ever TRIED to get better has he? He went into a rehab clinic but only because he was ordered to... AND he broke out of there...

Chances are - if you asked him - he'd say that he's happy with being the way he is - hence there's no reason for him to clean up his act and behave.

Besides, the press don't actually do him any harm any more than the tabloids made Prince Harry dress up as a ****. The papers report things that have already happened (and OK they probably twist things and hype it up a bit). Besides - there's no smoke without fire. He ain't innocent

He might make great music (not my personal tastes) but HE'S the one with the problem - why should he be allowed to inflict himself on others?! If he wants to be a Crack-Head Criminal fine - but expect to get plenty of stick for it.

Which is why Carl Barat kicked him out of The Libertines! I have no idea about the blackmail, but Doherty's clearly into a spiral of decline.

If you look at pictures of him you'll see that his teeth are in a real state - smoking crack ruins them, but it doesn't happen overnight - showing that he's been at this a while. Bearing in mind that he's 23, my guess is he'll make it to 25, just. I can't see him living much longer than that though.

Couldn't name a single song by either band although I've probably stumbled across them on Virgin....he looks a right mess....however so did Aerosmith as a whole so there could be hope for him yet!
