I remember being in Germany in 1988 and twice ended up in bars where we only realised it was a brothel when told the price of a beer (which included the price of a girl). We didn't stay for a "drink" in either bar. These "bars" where in the town centre of Hemer, not in some seedy red light district, so I can understand the difficulty in distinguishing between a brothel and a bar.
