Angry Get Your Tax Return In NOW!!

If, like me, you leave everything until the last minute, then you need to sort your tax out by the end of tomorrow for the year ending April 2004.

If, like me, you've forgotten the password that you used last year for your online filing of your return, then you are fecked

Bloody hell

The thing is set up so "efficiently" that despite knowing all 3 main parts of my login + answering any silly question that they asked, they are still unable to reset my password & have to post me a new one

All I want to do is file my tax return & not get a £100 fine

I now have to do a manual version & then try & find a tax office someplace that I can get my return to to prove that it was in before the deadline...

Anyone know of any Inland Revenue Tax offices in London I can send a bike to? Their website is not helpful...

dont you have to send this to the tax office that deals with your accounts James? Is that not noted on your return forms with your tax reference number.

I never tried the on-line forms before, so gave it a try back at the start of the month. Not only did it calculate the total for me but I recevied my tax rebate within a week of submitting it.

James,

Glad I'm not the only one

These 2 links are what you want:-

http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/news/internethours.pdf
http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/enq/index.htm

The IR office in BStE appears to be open 'til 20:00 tomorrow - otherwise you've got a choice of 5 in town.

James

NB You can definitely use any of the listed offices.

I wound-up my limited company last summer, I suppose I'll still have to do a tax return tho for its earnings upto that point tho, or not?

I heard that the £100 fine is actually credited to your account for next years return or something....so you dont really pay it!!

Still....i'm handing my return in tomorrow!

PTMW, theres a tax office in Harrow. I work right near it and saw loads of people going there yesterday, I was back in the office today and saw just as many people drive up today and throw their returns through their letter box.

I gave up the fight a few years ago and I use an accountant to do mine now, far better use of my time if I pay somebody to do it.

Sorted now but cannot find my bloody P60!!

Luckily I have my wage slips in a draw at work so fill it out a work tomorrow!!

even more lucky is that on Friday morning we had a big fire upstairs at work!! luckily I work downstairs!!

Just for once I'm not spending Jan 30/31st filling in and filing my return.
Started getting the paperwork organised last Thursday PM. Filed the return at about 06:00 Saturday morning.

Have now decided to buy a filing cabinet or similar so I don't have to do so much searching for bits and pieces next year. During my searching I found about £90 of dividend cheques I haven't banked and are OOD . I also found about 150 euros in various locations about the house though

I've got the last minute thing down to a fine art in case I need to. My IR login details have been copied to a safe, known place and I use billpay to pay them the dosh.

I used the online returns last year, did it in the summer, worked a treat...........right up until Saturday when they wrote me saying I had underpaid..............WTF, I am 'deducted at source' (PAYE) !!!!!!!! How can I 'underpay'........spoke to an accountant, who who says, and I quote "It's rubbish mate, you have'nt underpaid, it's just they lose billions each year and it's easier to to tell the likes of you that you underpaid raher than go after some of the people who fiddle the system...call you local office and tell them it is unacceptable and demand a meeting at your local office and a full breakdown of the calculations, I guarantee the 'underpayment' will vanish"

Hmmmmmmmmm, should I do as advised?

Cutting it a bit close, but successfully filed online today. Bit of a false start, the submission was rejected the first time, although it took the system 2 days to notify me

Just need to transfer money to them today to avoid paying interest

Does the login not have your details autocomplete stored? I had to type in my password on final submission, but didnt know it so had to use Password reveal to get the bloody thing.

Went to see the accountant on Friday. I was having a bad day and was expecting a huge tax bill.

To my surprise.....they owe me money (again!)

I'll never understand the IR! I underpaid one year....so they asked for a HUGE payment the next....so I paid that. Then they send over half of it back saying I'd overpaid!

And I've still got money on account that they owe me.

Well I had an accountant to do mine, helped me out no end until he disappeared and no-one can get hold of him, so I had to submit myself at the last minute

I also didnt understand the payment on account thing, so have just had to pay £4k more than I thought

At least it will be less next time though

I've got a year to go before I have to do mine

Shortly before I started my business I went on a Taxation and Bookkeeping course. It was enough to convince me that it would be worth every penny to pay an accountant to do it I hope mine doesn't disappear though like Simon's

bear in mind that according the SA helpline; the deadline runs up to midnight tonight!
that includes online or in person drop off's at the tax office

done mine online; altho have had to wait until today to speak to the tax office as my 7 year old tore my coding notice up and threw it in the bin a while back

apart from that all sorted- and they had my gateway user/password to me in 4 working days! shame the bank isnt so quick when I request tax certificates for my accounts

Seeing this made me panic (a very small amount LOL) I completed my TR before Xmas and had since received 2(!) letters to inform me that I owed them £1.60

Just couldn't remember whether I'd paid it or not

Quick email to the missus and she confirmed that I had

Also got a letter informing me that they won't be asking me to complete anymore out in future.
