Question Problem opening fizzy wine

Managed to break the top off the cork in a bottle of Asti type stuff

It can be a bit "volatile": when pulling corks even gently, I've had it blow back all over me

Anyone recommend a safe way to get it out? I don't want it to go to waste

stick the handel of a spoon in the bottle and push hard
the cork will stay in the bottle and if you have got bits of cork in the wine then pick them outHTH

i do it every day

put in the fridge, let it settle, then push the cork into the bottle - it'll float to the bottom when you pour it

Hmmmmmmmmm, that's what I'd do if it wasn't gassy. Is it safe to do with a gassy wine? A VERY gassy wine?

Next time. Wire cage off. Hold cork. Gently twist bottle while pulling slowly.
Have cloth ready. Bang. Drink.

Exactly what I did. Then it stuck fast half way out, so I twisted a bit harder while pulling harder............then a bit harder.............then the top broke off the cork: In future I'll buy cheaper stuff with PLASTIC corks!

So................I'm gonna live on the edge tomorrow morning, in the garden, after the wine has spent the night outside the back door to cool:

Serious answer - get it as cold as you possibly can without freezing it ! - that's the trick to less chance of it going bang all over the place. You should be able to get it out with a decent corkscrew and a little care.

Otherwise, Asti is nasty so stick to the real stuff !

Use a corkscrew. Screw it into the remaining piece very gently pushing as little as possible. It might help to drill a small pilot hole first!

Send a 1mm drill down the cork - gas should be vented off just nicely. Then force the cork into the bottle
