Me
Duval, Chimay, Leffe, Gulden Drak to name but a few! Get yourself to Antwerp. There's a bar that has a reported 600 different brews. I think this is the one...
Kulminator
Fortunately there's a decent Belgian bar in Perth

Chimay and Leffe are quite nice. They sell a Belgian beer here in the supermarkets which is rated at 10% Can't remember the name of it and I've yet to try it out...I somehow think it wouldn't be too my tastes at that strength for a beer.

I used to make trips to see my Opa when he was alive, whilst he was living in Meerhout and then Vaals.
I really miss the cafe culture of the Belgian bars, the fact that it is served in a special glass, and they start a tab for you even if your a completely unknown to the establishment.

Another big fan of Belgian beer. Favs being Duvel and, in moderation, Bush. I was amazed to find out I could get Duvel here.
Also a fan of Lambic beer. Visited a brewery in Brussels which introduced me to it. Further amazed to see I can get Lambic beer here as well.

I've had some called Inferno, and another called La Biere du Diable, (Devil's beer) and both were 12%, and amazing
I also enjoy a couple of bottles of Kriek now and then, my current fave being cherry, but I've also drunk plum, raspberry, and......................wait for it.................................mussels, actually made from the water that mussels were cooked in

Had duval last time I was in London and think I drank 3 bottles a bit too quick. So smooth you wouldnt know it was 8/9% (cant remember exactly).
leffe was alright - a mate left a bottle around mine after a party and I did the honourable thing. Nice to get away from the normal beers served in every pub.
Simon.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned "La Chouffe" or "Mc Chouffe".
Currently finishing off a crate of Chimay Bleu (the dark one).
I dabble with Lambic beers every now and again. Quite like Roedenbach Grand Cru and the odd Gueze like Drie Fontainen. I like to have heavier Trappist ales lying around but they don't taste right straight away, you have to try and keep the things until they're within 18months of the best before date before they mature properly. Most of mine don't tend to lie around that long.
I booze cruise 3-4 times a year with a mate. We tend to wander off to beer shops or warehouses around the Menen area, though we have wandered up through Roeselare on occasion.

Some of the beers mentioned above should carry a public health warning
I recently lost two days of my life thro a spirited session quaffing Duval
even the draught Stella seems a damn sight stronger than the stuff served in blighty
...so for all you fine Scoobynet Beer enthusiasts,I'll be sure to have a few for you tonite..hic!

Whenever I've ordered a pint in a UK pub it doesn't matter if I order a Fosters, Kronenborg, Carling or Stella - they all taste the bloody same to me.

When I went for a Xmas drink with the lads from uni one of the pubs we went into (believe it was a Witherspoons) had some specials on Belgium beer. Whole afternoon drinking Leffe and Hoegarden
After a couple of hours I was having trouble keeping hold of the Hoegarden glass, evil stuff never touching it again.

Still, at approx. 84p a bottle that's hardly losing out, is it?

Kwak is good stuff.
I've made the mistake at beer festivals of going for a 10% Trappist Triple first of all, which leaves me pretty much knocked out for anything else.
Kriek & frambozen (sp?) :-)
Ordinary lambic and gueze :-( (they taste like a cross between cider and beer, and while I like cider and beer, lambic's just too weird)

Straffe Hendricke from Bruges is delicious.
A great place to sample Belgian beers in Bruges is Den Dyver restaurant. They do a set meal where each course is prepared with a beer and an appropriate beer to complement the taste is served with that course (eg wild boar marinated in beer and served with an 8% Trappist brew). Mmmmmm beer......

Hoegarden is my favourite beer, and Leffe Blonde is also lovely
You can get Hoegarden Grand Cru in Sainsburys and thats almost 10%!! IMO its too strong, and actually spoils the flavour.

Agree with Mrs C - Kwak is fun - especially when it comes in the proper wooden cradle and mini "yard of ale"!
One of my good mates is Belgian. I was his best man, but I don't think anyone remembers his stag night due to Belgian beer's "proper" alcohol content!

Have been through quite a few. A mate at uni's parents lived in Belgium, his kitchen turned into a display of all the different types hed worked through. It got up to around the 150 mark eventually. Admittedly a few of those were the "fruit beers" - e.g. blackcurrant that tastes like nicer ribena but was >6%. Kwak is definitely fun out of the proper glasses, Chimay (blue or red, I'm not fussy!), Leffe and several others.
One favourite not yet mentioned was "Delerium Tremens". Comes in grey bottles with little pink elephants dancing on the labels, 9% or so. Gets better if you store it for at least 6 months after purchase. Very smooth, very nice, very potent. Did cause a "I'm never drinking again" incident for one friend - I've known her ~15 years now, that's the only time I've heard her say that
