Default Appeals....

Will there be an appeal for all the unfortunates flooded out of their homes, businesses ruined, probably not covered by insurance, up in the north-west of England? Or will there not be because there have been no deaths (that I have heard of anyway).

Not on the same scale (obviously) as the Tsunami, but lots of people suffering...

Just curious

If they would rather buy ****, beer and gambling slips with their money instead of insurance then, I'm afraid, it was a bad call on their part and up to them to deal with it!

Anyone in GENUINE hardship would get my money, however!

As much as I am aware of what you are trying to say Pete, I was implying that given that some of the areas had previously been threatened by flood, and since the last floods that were around a number of insurance companies appear to have refused assurance as they know they could be on to a loser, what do you do? No-one will buy your home because they know they won't be insured.....

The difference is that we are a rich organised nation able to deal with such
acts on our own.

The problem abroad is that alot, if not all of the countries hit are very poor
and complete infrastucture were destroyed leaving then nothing.

I hear what your saying and i believe that charity start's at home, but they
are two very different circumstances.

As a property investor I often come across houses/flats etc. that are uninsurable and you cannot get a mortgage on them .... I might buy to rent out - but they are a LOT cheaper!

So, they should have sold to someone like me, maybe?

still, it would be nice to have an aircraft carrier hanging around the bristol channel, wouldn't it?

i'm not sure what we'd do with it - maybe tie a load of pigs to the exhaust pipe and have a giant hog roast party.

Pete, if you buy these uninsurable houses and people rent them out, will they be able to insure their contents? As a result, would people check prior to renting and then not rent your house because they can't get insured? Bit of a bugger if you bought the house pre floods and then are a bit stuffed cos you can't sell. I suppose it doesn't matter if it doesn't affect you though

Scoobfan, I know what you mean, it's just that I've heard no mention of any support, rallying around, apart from some locals helping out where they can. Probably poor media coverage like normal though.

It was the same when the floods happened in Boscastle last year bud.

No real appeal made, but i would imagine if it had been on a large scale
our nation would of raised to help, like us Brits always do !!!!

Hanslow, they are not generally covered for flood damage - but can be insured for all the other perils.

As is the way in business, if I can't rent for the price I want I drop until it is let ..... there is no sentiment in business (those who think there is are out of business quite quickly!)
