Default This Royal Mail one will make you laugh

Thought this may make you laugh at how silly RM can be at times.

Basically, a lad here sent a very expensive parcel (brand new JVC ultra portable) and he sent it signed for (yes big mistake but anyhow...) It still hasnt arrived at its destination even though it was sent 10 days ago. So he got on the bell to RM to track the parcel and they said.......

SORRY CAN'T TRACK IT BECAUSE NO ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO DELIVER IT

Is it me or does that kinda defeat the object of tracking?

yes
but they always recommend special delivery

normal mail but with the recorded option is only trackable once an attempt has been made-caused me a few problems before, but special is sooo expensive

I sent a parcel recorded delivery about a year ago and it went missing. Decided to try and claim on the insurance and was told the same thing. I think the way it works is that it only gets tracked when it arrives at the postal depot the other end. If it doesn't make it that far then there is no record of it.

quite easy for things to "go missing" then....

Insurance cheque arrived in the post the next day!

well i work in a post office and i makes me laugh when people send stuff recorded delivery. we usually get the reason for sending it is because they don't want it to get lost, well of cause you don't want it lost as you would'nt be posting it in the first place the only point in sending somthing recorded is to proove that you sent it and that the recipient got their letter/parcel. what people forget is recorded gets handled the same way that any other letter gets handled, except that the postman gets you sign his bit of paper that you recieved it. special delivery is handled completly different, everytime the letter/parcel is move someone signs for that item so is less likeley to be lost/stollen. you pays your money

Tis true, just goes in with the rest of the first & second class mail, so until the postie knocks on ur door and gets no answer, he then can record it and thats where the tracking comes in, until he's done that they have no idea where it is.
i ALWAYS ask for things to be sent to me and send things out SPECIAL NEXT DAY DELIVERY, costs about £5.50 and insures the item upto £250 or pay a bit more if the item is worth more.
But it does what it says on the label, gets there next day

the difference with std parcels is you don't get a signiture and it can take upto 5 days where special delivery is garenteed next day by 1 and get a signature aswell as being handled seperatly
