A peculiarity of English law is that witnesses can be compelled to attend, but the defendant cannot - or at least never is. This OFTEN means that defendants simply don't show up, causing the trial to be delayed, which is the point of the exercise. The defence are hoping that if the prosecution get bored enough with all the delays then their witnesses will get forgetful, or disappear, or the case will be thrown out, or the prosecution will agree to a bargain. It's all a big game I'm afraid...

I wonder what his situation is, being in prison did they swap his metal hook for a rubber one, does he have some sort of other arrangement going on, pincers?? you can't walk around prison with that bloody great hook you can either harm yourself or other inmates.
