Ancient Relics in the Freezer....
Looking for a beef joint to roast for tonight and found a nice peice of Aberdeen Angus.
Problem is is it's dated 2001 It was put in there the day it was bought, and it's never been allowed to defrost so would it still be ok or not?
I really can't be arsed to go out to the shops today (if any are open)

Rather you than me but according to the food standards agency web site it "should" be safe depending on how its been stored... the wording being:-
The Food Standards Agency advise that meat that is frozen and held under appropriate temperatures in cold stores can safely be consumed up to several years after freezing.
This is because there is unlikely to be any increase in risk due to microbiological activity, as long as temperature controls, which are set out in EU legislation, have been properly maintained.

Cheers - that's confirmed what I thought.
I'll see how it looks/smells when it's thawed. And make plenty of gravy, as I'd imagine it'll be rather dry.
I think I still have enough whisky in my blood to kill off any bacteria anyway - Just didn't want to poison the rest of the family

It'll be fine and I'd cook it....but don't quote me on that. I've chucked the odd bit of chicken and pork back into the freezer after thawing. Highly unrecommended but so far its not killed either of us however it was 'only' just defrosted and done in the fridge.
