Another watch thread - Omega Speedmaster
Looking at getting a moon watch and have been offered a year old one for fairly cheap. It has all the bits with it but was wondering if there is anything I can look for on the actual watch to make sure it is not a good fake, eg. movement and so on
cheers

There are a lot of replica Speedmasters around at the moment
Well if you open it up you can compare the movement (its an Omega 1861) it should look like
except the crystal back ones like above look a little bit different/better (just for shows sake) but the basic movement should be the same
Check for a faint Omega Logo imprint in the centre of the Hesalite 'glass' on the front, you'll need to hold it in a light to see it.
It should obviously be manual not auto
Check it against this good quality picof a real one
Replicas at the moment seem to have -
Fatter than correct sub dial hands,
a raised/silver omega logo instead of flat white one,
circular white outlines around the sub dials
If its got all the original papers, check it with the jewellers it was bought from too.

As Yoza told me once (as i hadn't noticed on mine), assuming it hasn't been opened a real one should have a tiny red dot of paint on the back - sort of stuck on the join between the case and the back cover.
Here's a couple of pics of mine, you can't see the dot or the Omega sign on the hesalite crystal front, but it gives you an idea of where the serial number is etc (on the lug behind the number 5).
Oh, this is the newest type. Older ones don't have push button releases on the clasp.

That's because there are so many available women and you'd need to move on, spending as little time as possible with one.
Anyway this is well off topic.
Watch, watch, watch. It's now back on topic.
