Post I dont beeeeelive it !!!

got a knock on the door Monday night and it was one of the neighhbour's who says " soz i have just reversed into your car and really damaged it! "
OH NO....! Any way get the car keys and go out to inspect the damage ( not as bad as i was expecting ). He had reversed his P100 ( ford pick-up thing ) into the offside door, its a big dent just above the standard body kit, no creases about 1 inch deep, i have been told it needs a new door but the internals, locks and glass are fine. ( saxo VTR ).

He says he wanted to give me the cash, so of i went to get the quotes and i couldt belive it... main dealer £1200 so i thought typical main dealer rip of so have been to a few more places and the cheapest i have found is £750, the car is only worth £3500.

(rant mode/on)
£750 for a crapy door made out of tin foil that cant be wright !!!
(rant mode/of)

at least the guy came and told me, i dont no him that well and its a busy street so he could have just p**sed of..!!

just wanted to get it of my chest feel better now :-)

Nae luck mate, at least the person was good enough to admit to the damage and offer to pay for the repairs.
Probably cheaper to fling a new door on rather than re-skin it, given the labour involved in re-skinning a door. Then theres the painting costs and blending the fnt & rear panels as well.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

well i was expecting it to get interesting at this point, but he knew the place i had got the quote and he called them to verify it.

I suggested going through the insurance ( complete pain in the **** ) but he said he will draw out the cash at the weekend and hand it over, doesnt want to go through insurance at all. ( makes me wonder if he has any! ).

Feel a bit of a t**t now, rewarding his honesty with a hefty bill like that, but on the other hand his fault and i dont want loads of filler in the door

If he can afford an 8 miles-to-the-gallon US pickup at UK fuel prices, money obviously means nothing to him

Just thought about this, get him a thank you present for damaging my car and leaving me without transport for 5 days. That makes sense (not)

Fair play to him for owning up though I bet when he's £750 lighter he'll look where he's going a bit more

Just worried it will be a pile of pants at that price and it will end up costing me more time and money and he gets away with a cheaper price !! hinges dont look to bad and the only other connection is the one with all the electrics in, also would need to move the lock over, think its going to be more trouble than its worth...

Talking UPDATE

Well how stupid is this.......!!!! I have got an offer being considered for a damaged VTR ( front end crash ) in the same colour as mine for a simlar price as the cost to get a new door fitted and sprayed and i get to loot the car for some nicer parts ( eg VTS wheels ) then sell the rest, so i should come out in profit...!!!
