Default Watch people- lend me your ears... Manual watch gaining time?

Bought my heuer carrera reissue a month or so back
It was new old stock- as it was discontinued some time ago, but it was bought brand new (not preowned) from an official tag dealer( i managed to find one which had one left)

Its the rare manual wind model, with the Lemania 1873 Movement ( to quote:" 18 jewels, 21,600 bph, monometallic balance, Nivarox spring and a power reserve 50 hours") It is this model (library pic): http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/B65heuer1.JPG

Now the problem i have it it seems to be gaining time.

I suspected this, so ive done a test over the weekend
I wound and set the time at 4am on friday when i got home from work. It has been wound once over the weekend, so has not stopped over this time, it has been continuously working.
Now, it has gained approx 5 minutes over the course of the weekend... which i find a little strange. Its been doing this since i got it, which clearly isnt right.

Having never owned an expensive or decent watch before, im a little un-genned up on these things. Do they need a regular service or something? Being New old stock, and only a month old its still under warranty/guarantee..

gen me up people

Take it back and get 'em to reset it. Not a big deal - my Moon Watch used to gain a bit, but it's accurate to -/+ 10seconds per day now following a good service

They usually have a +/- adjustment lever inside the case which a shop can adjust for you. When did you buy it? It's best to let it run in for a month or so (from new) so it can settle before having it adjusted.

The current moon watch uses an Omega 1861 movement, though i think the original older version used to use a Lemania movement.

Defo take it back to get adjusted.Since you bought it from an authorised dealer you should be fine. They often need adjusting, the fact its old stock shouldnt matter one bit.

My local breitling dealer once had a watch in the window for 7 years before selling it.

Set it 5 mins slow.

Ie. If its 1500hrs set it to 1455hrs, then when you go to look at it as you did before it will be right.

PS. I told you Tags were pooh, but would you wouldnt listen.....

Right, now the stupidness is out of the way....

Send it back, no big deal, they will re-calibrate it using a ( + or - ) lever on the hairspring, quite easy to do as it happens.

As a matter of interest does it lose time on your wrist ?

The reason I ask is this, my Daytona keeps perfect time on my wrist, yet loses time when left crown face down, and it will gain time when left crown face up., something to do with the escapement I told.

Only by 2-3 mins in a 24 hr stint, but strange all the same.

This is a common phenomenon apparently, hence the design of the tourbillon (rotating escapement).....I bore myself sometimes.

Anyway what were we talking about ?

Oh yes.......Tags are pooh.

Ive been wearing it all weekend- so yes it definately happens when on my wrist.

Ill try the 5 mins slow thing and report back.

I knew you would post 'i told you so'
Simple fact is it was the style- if it had been a breitling or a rolex that looked like this i would have bought it. Name=nothing. Style+design=everything, and this has been my favourite for years. so there

I havent read any of the other replies but.... If its a TAG-Heuer in its first year of warranty then send it back to Duvalls in Manchester and they will adjust it. I bought quite an expensive automatic TAG years ago before they were so popular (and so copied) and it had to have the bezel repaired under warranty; when it came back the mechanism had been adjusted too and it was as accurate a quartz, faultless service.

I have a Tag Monza Calibre 36 and I am amazed at it's accuracy.

Several of my friends have Rolexs' and none of them are anywhere near as accurate.

Conclusion.

Rolex are pooh.

I rest my case.

My Seiko moon phase watch that I bought in Hong Kong several years ago is accurate to 3 seconds/month at the worst. I set the moon phase over Bahrein on the trip home and it has been dead accurate ever since .

It cost £90.
