Who is Henry Rollins?
I think that's his name anyway...
You know, the bloke who is always in those rock music documentries.
He seems like 'the kind of dude' I should know something about.
Cheers...

I know him from the band Black Flag - legend has it he jumped on stage and grabbed their microphone one night and was called up a few days later to front the band - not sure how true this is though.
He has also been in movies (Heat and Lost Highway are where I know him from) and I believe he writes books/poetry.
I've saved the best till last - he detests U2 (saw him on TV doc in the States discussing other bands) - so you're probably right when you say you should know something about him
tiggers.

I'm not saying whether it's you or him though.

Henry Rollins is a f*cking legend! If you ever get the chance to see him on one of his spoken word tours then take it. He's not a stand-up comedian so don't expect a laugh a minute but he is excellent at telling stories and is very amusing.
The story about how he became vocalist with Black Flag is true. He was following Black Flag across America with Ian MacKaye (another musical genius from the bands Minor Threat and Fugazi) and they got to know the band members. His name was Henry Garfield at that time! The vocalist in Black Flag, a guy called Dez, had been wanting to give up lead vocals and play the guitar. At a show in New York Henry jumped on stage and sang one song with them, and was invited to go back and jam for a bit with the band. So he took the train from Washington D.C. to New York and played a few songs with the band who decided to offer him the job of lead vocals. Henry quit his job in DC, rented his apartment out, sold nearly everything he owned and joined the band on tour a few days later. The first album, Damaged, came shortly after that in 1981.
Henry Rollins recently broke up the original Rollins Band (which came after Black Flag) and has replaced them with the LA based Mother Superior. He operates 2.13.61, (http://21361.com/) a publishing and record company. He also writes for his own label and the occasional magazine, performs voice-over work for commercials and music documentaries, acts here and there in feature films and television roles.

If you get a chance check out the book "Get in the Van" - HR's diary of the Black Flag times. A great read with some good archive pictures, one of his less depressing works, but then it does have it's moments
