All Sony, just short of 900. Theyre coming to set the lot up for us and mount the speakers around the room.

Buy King Arthur Directors Cut (came out this week) should be a good film to give the sub a test.

I always liked Sony TVs - they never seem to make bad ones.
Having recently gone through the star wars trilogy myself on my set-up - the digitally remastered picture is a serious improvement. The sound is clearly a little "old technology" recording in places IMHO, but still decent.
One of the best tests for the sound part of the set-up IMHO is the new CD/DVD release by J-M Jarre "Aero". Picture is boring as hell, but the sound (particularly the steering of it) is really quite something if the speakers etc are up to decent musical stuff. I wouldn't bother with the CD recording, but defo worth it in DVD mode.

The Pod Race from Phantom Menace is Superb for showing off surround sound - as is the lobby shootout from the Matrix.
Get yourself some decent interconnects mate, makes a world of difference.

if your systems support DTS get Toy Story 1 & 2 and Finding Nemo. Seriously, they really do have superb sound and IMO DTS is the best at showing what good surround sound is all about.
For a really really good test of your system especially the sub get the Band of Brothers box set. I think its disk 3 and the episode "Carrantan" where the soldiers are enduring severe cold and snow and are under constant mortar attack. One minute its deadly quite the next theres a whistle and then your house shakes to the sound of the mortar round exploding. Awesome stuff.

I think I will buy one of those DVD players with the Home cinema amp and speakers, waiing on getting an extension one for a proper set up but in the meantime are they worth the effort, they seem to do all the formats apart from THX, any suggestions as to what model ?

A mate of mine got an all in one system from Pioneer about a year ago for a little over 200 notes - I set it up for him and was pretty impressed, for the money he paid I couldn't fault it.

was a bit annoyed as he got it for less than what I paid for a centre speaker...
