Just rang up sky about the new £170 one-off package.......
..and the sales guy offered me a better option (his words).
Take out the basic package, first month is half price, then 13.50 per month which equals £158 for a year, then cancel and keep the basic free channels, works out cheaper than the new 170 package.
Any downside?

he said i could cancel after the first year at the end of the contract and switch to the free channels for no ongoing cost.
the alternative is one of those new tv's with freeview plus a new aerial.
