Help - creating new company
I am currently in the process of re-negotiating the terms of my employment, basically I am moving from England back to Scotland and will now be working part time. All my work is down south and I don't want to spend all my time away from the family.
My company have been very helpful and we have been looking at moving me to a part time contract, however their lawyer has advised them that if they give me part time contract, this would allow any other employee to become part time, a situation they want to avoid, which is fair enough.
So it boils down to me leaving the company and then working for them as a contractor. I now need to look into setting up a company and all the whistles and bells that goes with this, IR35 etc.
i intend to be available for 3 days per week for my curent employer and then I may look for some work in Scotland for the other days
Can anyone give me some advice on how to go about this, or point me in the right direction

Do you think you will be using an accountant under this new regime? If so then why don't you identify one and discuss your thoughts with him at the outset as he will have the answers you want and explain most tax efficient ways of doing things. This is not to say you have to use one though. DL

Business Link is a very helpful site, there is loads of information. When I started my business I did some courses in bookeeping and taxation and whilst I gained a basic knowledge of both subjects they also reinforced my opinion that getting a good bookeeping programme and accountant are essential, all you have to do is keep good records and hand them over to your accountant at the end of the year which frees you up to get on with the business of earning money

A lot of useful info here, but be aware that some people are a little jaded at being roundly shafted by Gordon Brown and Dawn Primarolo!
Most accountants offer a free 1/2 hr consultation so fire up a couple but be aware that accountants are not the right people to ask if you are free of IR35, you need a specialist or good employment lawyer for that.

ParasolIT seem to be ok - check NamesFacesPlaces.com (I think this is right) for more info. It's the online area for CW.
