I have actually never read the books but thought the films were excellent. The ending did annoy me a bit too, and I also thought it was sexist when the woman managed to kill the Witch King. One would have thought that he would have included WOman in the spell when they said no "man" could kill him!

Witch King
I haven't seen the film but in the book....
Merry stabs him behind the knee with 'the right knife/dagger' etc. which does some real damage, then Eowyn pokes her sword through his head.... or where his head would have been if he was still mortal.

There all top films, all three of them.
As for what they all mean, I dont really know.
....He get this ring and needs to chuck it in some volcano, it takes him ages to get to it, and gets loads of grief on the way. Which is a bit mad, beacause some of his best mates are flying dragon thingies, he should have simply got a lift.
On a slight tangent here........I was listening to one of the SugarBabes getting interviewed on the radio about being on the BandAid 20 single.
She said, " The best part was getting to meet Mr Gandalf."
Oh, how I laughed...

I enjoyed the book, but I preferred the films, even taking into account the changes that were made, IMHO I think most were for the better and help clarify the story.

Should have given the ring to my mate - he can break anything (unintentionally) - once managed to break a swimming pool!
Seriously though - when it the extended mix coming out. Should be any day now unless I missed it.

Who actually killed the Witch-King has actually been debated for some time by those into debating this kind of thing. When Meriadoc stabs him from behind, there is some text in the book saying "No other blade, not though mightier hands had wielded it, would have dealt that foe a wound so bitter, cleaving the undead flesh, breaking the spell that knit his unseen sinews to his will."
Using the eagles to "fly the ring in" to mount doom has also been debated. The consensus seems to be that the ring would have corrupted them to betray their mission.
