Massive Plod opperation to pull tax dodgers on the M40
I spotted a bunch of cameras on the M40 just South of Oxford today and a mile down the road there must have been 20+ police cars and bikes ready to catch the dodgers. Not seen anything on that scale before!
Anyone here see them catch anyone?

because a percentage of the ones without tax will also have no insurance.
I applaud any initiatives to reduce the number of uninsured drivers on the roads.

It's done to get people who are wanted, pissed, whose cars are unregistered, been used in crime etc. etc. etc..............
No tax is at the bottom of the list.

After getting a £100 fine for accidently being in a bus lane for 7 seconds and caught by secret camera I wonder where things are going. Yes, getting insurance dodgers is a good thing, all premiums would come down if everyone paid. But personally I don't feel safer with all these cameras just know that I can be 'done' for petty and to be honest insignificant things (bus lane etc).

Uninsured driving is a bad thing, but all the camera's all over the country are a joke. The police constantly spout "crime prevention" tactics at us..Hiding camera's behind posts,in tree's and on bends just after long straights aint prevention..its just a money making scheme. If you speed or act the t**t in front of a Striped up patrol car, well you need the book throwin at you!!.I do a round trip of just 220 miles every weekend and i see over 60 camera's on my journey..ive counted them!!
That is targeting the motorist to draw cash out of there pockets..simple fact..

It's probably more about knock on offenses as much as the tax evasion. The Police are well aware that people who drive illegally are likely to be involved in other criminal activity as well. Be it drugs, thieving or even illegal immigrants.

This was at BEACONSFIELD in Bucks, junction 2 M40, It was an ANPR operation, to catch criminal activity, tax, driving docs offences, disqualified drivers, stolen cars, everything NOT JUST TAX. Tax is a DVLA matter, we do not put major operations together just for road tax.... But stolen cars, and disqual drivers and criminals well thats Game On.
ANPR operations go on daily on a smaller scale, many patrol cars are fitted with ANPR as standard equipment now. If Dodgy Geezers are about.....we get em.
Nothing to alarm yourself about if you are legit.

It's great patrol cars havs ANPR, but I find it odd that in roughly the 15000mile/year I drive I see very few traffic patrol cars - I assume pandas don't have these fitted?
I wish it was done a much larger scale. There are too many uninsured cars on the road, untaxed cars pretty much guarantee it's uninsured and not MOT'd and most likely unsafe and often driven by someone of dubious nature (drunk, criminal, druggie etc.). Legit people pay, and get screwed because of it.
This is a much more active approach at getting dangerous drivers off the road than speed cameras ever will.

Coz traffic policemen are being replaced by machines/redeployed to other stuff. ANPR is also installed at fixed locations all over the country. You'd be surprised at some of the things that drive through.
Of course there are also cars that you don't see..........

It not as if the old bill even deal with people for no/dodgy tax. 99% of the time, CLE2/6 and leave it to the DVLA.
Of course if you'd like loads of people running round with no tax/insurance and increasing everyones bills..........
