Default Camcorders

I would like to buy a new camcorder, dont know much about them apart from the fact I want a digital one to replace the old video 8 one where the battery drops off if I use the big one or lasts about 2 minutes for the standard one.

Just want something basic but am interested in what to avoid as well as what to go for, intend to hook it up to the pc and put stuff onto DVD.

Budget wise, would 500 quid do, could go a bit more but dont want to go mad, also any good places to buy from.

Thanks in advance.

I bought one of these Sony DCR-HC40ES mini dv camcorders about 6 months ago & it's superb. I bought it from www.rgbdirect.co.uk who were the most competetive at the time.

I found loads of useful info at http://forum.simplydv.co.uk/

Hope this helps

Chris

I should also say that with just a firewire cable & Pinnacle Studio 9 software I've managed to knock up some suprisingly decent Dvd's

Firewire is quicker than USB isnt it, and firewire cards are dead cheap, my pc only has USB1.0 so if the Camcorder has USB2.0 I would have to put up with the slower speed or either go firewire or buy a USB 2.0 card.

Am I correct ?
