Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind.... (with spoilers!!)
right ho.
Im a massive Donnie Darko fan, rated it as one of my all time favourite films.
nowadays, whenever Donnie Darko gets a mention there are always a few who pop up and say that Eternal Sunshine is a bleedin good film also.
I bought it Tuesday lunchtime and watched it Tuesday night.
Brilliant film, I liked the plot, the acting was sharp and the script was bang on.
At first when the end of the film came I thought it was a real Donnie rip off with the whole "stuck in a time loop" scenario, it could well have been implied in the script that they would keep going round in the same loop, the giveaway was Elijah Wood knocking the car window!
Then I took ten minutes or so to analyse it again and took into account the pulp fiction style of plot mixing.
very clever.
What was refreshing for this type of movie was the brightness of the cinematography, no careful use of shadows/darkness to set the mood, this was nice and bright and lively and didnt strain the eyes too much.
<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
but, are they saying that destiny will always get its own way?
ie. Kirsten Dunst
that there really is one person for everyone and we will find that one person regardless?
one in the eye for the freewill v determinist thinkers there?!
very clever film as said, my wife didnt watch it as she hates Jim Carrey and was feeling poorly, so Ill guess Ill get to watch it again to fill i any gaps.
definately oine to watch if you havent seen it.

I know what you mean about JC. The original Ace was ok, the Mask was good, but apart from that, he winds me up totally.
Thus I was in two minds about seeing spotless mind, bloody glad I did, it's fab, got the soundtrack too.

One of my favourite films full stop.
The things going on in the background, the alternate reality/dreamworld things are fantastic.
I second that you should see it if you haven't already, but don't expect a typical Jim Carrey movie from it.

Been banging on about this film for ages - didnt think anyone was listening.
Best film I've seen in years!

To get all arty/w@nky for a second......
One of my favourite things about the film is right at the end when they 'discover' each other again and then play the tapes!!
What a fantastic concept - to hear the things people say/think about one another in the death throes of a relationship - but hear them right at the beginning when the relationship is fresh!

question is...
if you were Jim Carrey at the end, would you?
after hearing how little you thought of someone at the end of your previous relationship, how could you respect them again?

Some relationships feel like a neverending cycle. Ever broken up with someone only to go back out with them again?
Sometimes you just hang on thinking something better will come along then 10 years later you wonder where the time went and why you're stuck in a contemptuous relationship. At which point you convince yourself you're too old to find someone else so you plod along feeling trapped.
