How do trevelo cameras work?

If we're talking about the same front facing cameras, Truvelo's are not new and have been around a long time.
They work by piezo road strips buried in the tarmac in front of the camera which are a known distance apart, the time between compression's is measured to give the resulting speed of the vehicle. The system takes four readings on a two axle vehicle and uses the average time for compression's to calculate the resulting speed.
These are therefore not detected by radar detectors and only by GPS based systems

Hmmm - so what happens if you drive over the strips in a smart car - wheelbase 6ft - and then in a hummer - wheelbase 6squillion foot - the sensors must think the smart car is doing mach1 and the hummer 15mph?
does not compute.......

Which are the cameras that can measure you between two dofferent points on the same road?
And which are the cameras that cam record you speed(ing) from a long distance.
I ask this cause oop Nurth, they have just installed quite a few new looking cameras along our 'Coast road' and it seems to be terrifying all the driver that go past.

I have seen a Trevelo camera setup with the piezo road strips on both sides of the camera - one set on each side of the road. Although I've never seen it done, I'm guessing that particular camera can be turned round to point the other way.

Most Truvelos only get the driver coming towards them. They can be turned round so they face the other way though. If its facing towards you and you drive past in on the other side of the road it wont get you as the strips for that side of the road will now be behind the camera if you see what i mean....thats the case for all the few dozen or so truvelos in northants anyway.
