In our local press today the plod have been hammered by a judge for using automated summonse system for speeding motorists off speed cams. They don't sign it themselves their signature just gets scanned onto document. Judge has ruled them illegal and thrown out a couple of cases. Told Mr Brunstrom to go away and start signing the forms like a good old fashioned bobby. That'll slow em down a bit. Gonna cost them a fortune in admin.So if your local plod have been doing them same and you get clocked make sure you check the signature is proper and not just scanned.

Hope so - I had one from Bedfordshire that was illegible - immediately wrote and informed them that there was no way I could sign it. 4 weeks later - a replacement arrived (2nd class!) Trouble was it still had the original date and I recieved it a few days after the expiry date. Am currently awaiting a response to a further letter to the Chief Constable!

i think that translates to "i was pulled for speeding but when they checked the gun it was under reading so i was able to leave with no charge" init?

if the signature is scanned it won't stand up in court. The North Wales judge has set a legal precedent by throwing out the two cases. Refer to the previous post linking to North Wales newspaper site. They have been forced to return to the old system.

As has been pointed out on 5ive-o.com, the problem is NOT the fact that the sig isn't real as many statements in court aren't signed; it's the fact that the police officer didn't write the statement. In fact, they generally hadn't seen the thing before they went into the stand. So don't get your hopes up about sigs.
