Speeding again,advice please?
Friend had a letter in the post today,74 in a 50.
Says caught on camera ,who was driving etc
But would have thought surely they would have just sent a fixed penalty,or is
this more of a court case pending ?

I got done at 85 in a 60 and 50 in a 30(latter police's fault imho)
Anyway both court case's so i would suspect ur friends will be to.
My prediction..4 points,160-200 pound fine.

If your friend wasn't stopped at the time then how do they know who was driving? The whole point of the current system is that you are forced to admit to guilt no matter what the true circumstances.
So, did the letter ask your friend to declare who was driving or were they stopped at the scene and given a verbal notice of intended prosecution at that time?

At least some counties tend to hand out fixed penalty for up to 25mph over the limit - much quicker revenue this way . The one time I got caught - many years ago, in Derbyshire - they actually stated that up to 25, you could opt to accept 3 points/£40 (now £60, I know).
However, hedgehog's point is entirely valid - the present system is very much along the lines of guilty unless you can prove innocent, and some of the letters are arguably demanding money with menace. There's numerous threads on here and other places, but as a first step, defintely ask for a copy of the photo in order to help confirm identify of the driver (or car - e.g. could be a cloned plate?)

I can supply a name and address of someone in Iraq or Iran. You supply the details and you are no longer responsible for any follow up regardless of what they say.
