Guitarists? (Effects Pedal Advice)
Quite possibly a stab in the dark but I wonder if anyone on here has a Boss SD-1 they could give me some views on?
I currently use a DS-1 for the majority of my distortion based effects but fancy something a bit less "extreme" for rhythm playing - the SD-1 seems to fit the bill from what i've read meaning I can set my DS-1 aside solely for lead stuff...
Having never used a dedicated overdrive pedal before, I wonder if anyone that has a similar setup could provide me with some views? Good/Bad? Any alternatives I should be considering before I part with my hard-earned!?
Regards,
Kelvin.

Harmony Central has lots of reviews

I had a Pearl overdrive with a parametric EQ, superb sound but like an idiot I put it on eBay after getting a Korg multi-effects unit.

Are you using it on its own for your od sound? (Ie: switch off the pedal and you're on your clean sound)
What a lot of people seem to forget is overdrive pedals are intended to work with a dirty sound on the amp (hence OVERdrive). The idea being that they, fatten up/add more bollox, to what's already there.
I get the impression at times that some people think that by buying an od pedal they're gonna get a monsterous sound - in my experience this doesn't happen.
Over the years I've gone through tons of guitar stuff always searching for 'that' sound. What became obvious is that there is no one magic piece of kit, that'll give you everything. It's really a combination of a great sounding amp, and a great guitar then you colour the sound with effects (I'm including od's in this).
It'd be handy if you could give a bit more info - what's the rest of your setup?, what sort of sounds are you aiming for?, is it for gigging or purely for home?

I'm currently using a Les Paul, although my choice of Amp is often not down to me - we move about a fair bit when playing and often use supplied equipment or more "travel friendly" kit. In an ideal world i'd be dragging a tube amp around with me but sadly that's not particularly practical...
I can influence my "pre-amp" sound and play it back through a clean channel which (hopefully) will give me a relatively consistent sound regardless - that's my intention in any case
