Question Business trips.

Anyone here ever done any oversea business trips? Heres the itinery for a little jaunt we are currently planning:

All times local:

Wed, Dep LHR 1320 Arr JFK 1610
Thu, Dep 1920 Arr Washington Dulles 2036
Fri Dep Dulles 1850 Arr LAX 2137 then Dep LAX 2220 Arr Sydney 0800, 2 days later.
Sun Dep Sydney 0945 Arr Canberra 1035
Tues Dep Canberra 1505 Arr Sydney 1555
Tues Dep Sydney 1700 Arr Singapore 2140
Tues Dep Singapore 2240 Arr LHR 0445 next day.

So, around the world, London via NY, Washington, LA, Sydney, Canberra, Sydney, Singapore, London, in 5 and a bit days.

Meetings in JFK, Dulles, Canberra.

Oh, and my boss wants me back in to work the next day!

Jetlag anyone? More seriously, is this possible, while keeping your head clear for business meetings? Anyone here done anything like this?

I keep getting flashbacks to Clarkson flying around the world, and how screwed up he was at the end of it!

Damn, I wouldn't want to do that. Jet lag, because your travelling through time zones so fequently you may not suffer that badly. Also on the long journeys you can sleep.

But I think it's a bit ritch wanting you back without a day off. Just go in and do nothing / be monged out.

Couple of problems with that.

1, In 38 years, i've only ever managed to sleep in a dark room on a bed.
2, No monging about possible, she wants me to do a presentation!

Personally I'd tell you boss to shove it if he expects you back in the office the next day.

If I'm flying to TO or STL, and it's a morning flight, It's an unwritten rule that they won't see me that day, and probably not until mid afternoon, if at all, the next day.

A friend of mine flew from here (Toronto) to Oz to see her family, and I'm pretty sure that she was fairly wiped out when she got there, so I'd assume you'd be feeling the same, it's not exactly a short flight. Plus the time differences will mess with your head

1. Fair enough.

2. Had to be didn't. LOL If we can go through child birth, you can come into work after a plane trip.

Oh, and enjoy the nice long wait when you land in the US to clear Immigration and Customs, and expect to be grilled as you are there on Business. They *love* people coming in for business trips. Oh and don't joke with them, a dog turd has a more developed sense of humour than a US Immigration Officer.

**** that. I'd tell them to **** off about that much flying in so few days. Seriously, that's taking the ****. I used to regularly do UK <-> California and that just became annoying. I haven't had to fly on business for over 3 years and I hope never to again!

Tell them to stuff it. Or split it into at least 2 trips.

Nope, not a pilot, although i do work in the industry.

I just dont see how, with all the jetlag, we're going to be capable of any serious thinking at the meetings.
And as for the itinery, 47 minutes to change in LAX from an internal flight to an overseas one? Cutting it slightly fine wouldnt you say?

Hello

Are you at least in business class? If you fly with British Airways, the beds are great. I don't think you will have time to get jetlagged. You will just be tired all the time.

Some of the US immigration guys are nice, but some are very mean.

Steve.

Business class LHR to JFK flying with United.
Business again LAX to Sydney, again with United.
Business again Sydney to Singapore, flying with Qantas
Finally BA Singapore to Heathrow.
Anyone know what the "bed" situation is with United/Qantas?

Hello Markus

I went to Toronto last week, for all of 8 hours. It's a bit grotty! Although I just went to the Holiday Inn in Yorkdale, so maybe I didn't see the best bits! The custom guys on the order were much friendlier than the mean ones here in Atlanta.

As for beds -- I believe that Quantas and Singapore airlines do not have them, sorry.

Toronto for 8hrs I'd want at least two days so I could go shopping and sight seeing.

Thumbs up

Tell your boss to stuff her job.......

......... but resign whilst in Sydney

Have a nice holiday at your companies expense, exchange your return ticket for one in about a month's time...... and go and run up a huge bill on your company credit card.
