Default help please, trouble with e-bay seller

Brought an item from a guy on e-bay last week. Paid the cash straight into his account last Monday, he checked on Tuesday and said he'd post it Royal Mail Special D on Wednesday for us to receive Thursday. Surprise sursprise, it's now a week since he said that and still no goods. I phoned him yesterday and asked for the tracking number, he said he'd chase it on the web and let me know. We've had nothing from him at all. I've left 3 messages today so far, and told him I will continue to call him until he talks to me. I've reported it to e-bay, what else should I do, ?????

Item was around the £100 mark.

Cheers

item number?
I never pay/accept cash straight into account.
Paypal/cash/postal order/cheque only- with paypal preferred, as if nothing arrives you can claim it back easily.

f1, I know I'm stating the obvious but WHY did you buy anything from someone with a negative rating? I'd be wary if he had a few +ve feedbacks!

If you're calling him on a landline telephone number then you still might getting something out of the situation. Was the item you paid for sent via insured post?

Dazza you can now claim back through a trading thingy on paypal where you report it through paypal only if the item has been paid for via paypal. if they reply then you try and resolve the issues if they dont reply then paypal will automatically refund you. I have had to use this a few times on items i have bought.

if the parcel was sent by special delivery then there will be a tracking number for this item unfortunately you have paid cash into his account hopefully you have a reciept so you have proof the money was sent. If the item was sent via special delivery then it should have been insured up to a certain amount automatically (think it might be £150 but not 100% sure would have to check on royal mails webby)
You have reported it to ebay that is all you can do. unfortunately there are some tossers on ebay. Still you know next time to use cheque/postal order/paypal etc for next time!
did the bloke only have one negative feedback or was there positives on there aswell? feedback is always the first thing i check whenever i am buying or selling items!

Jeez I'd rather give a £100 to a pisshead on a park bench. At least you get to shake his hand.
