Default Registering an imported Car & SVA

Been awhile since I done one so ...

Basically I'm getting my FTO registered as it has now pased it's SVA etc.

The company wh did the SVA say they can register etc. Price quoted is £175 + Vat.

This includes 6 months tax, first reg fee and plates. The issue I have is car tax a nd first reg fee are not vatable? I.e. if I do it myself I pay the dvla £90 for the tax and £38 first reg fee. Meaning I'm paying almost £70 for a set of plates and a form filling in.

Does anyone know if they should be charging VAT on the full amount, could I make a cheque out fot the tax direct to the dvla, then pay the £47 + VAT for the plates and admin?

Also, The SVA test, this was £180, the price I was quoted was £495+VAT including the test, again if I had payed the VI direct this would have been £180 inc.

The only reason I'm querying is last ones I did, the company who did the conversion registering etc. Always got me to pay the VI and dvla direct . I.e I sent the company the cheques with the docs so am now thinking i'm being charged VAT on items I should not be paying VAT on.

Thanks for reading ... longer than I thought
