Default I still can't beleive it

I phoned up Tesco to see why my insurance renewal hadn't come thru. When they told me it was automatically renewed, i was about to hang up - but thought i'd best just ask how much. After being told I informed them i was cancelling and the lady asked why !!!!!!!!!

Anyways, here's what came thru today (along with another letter cancelling it):

Madness!!

From the look of that form, Tesco insurance = Direct Line.

Lump Privilege into that pile too.

Not sure who funds Egg (on the car insurance side), but they use the software web software as DL, Tesco & Privilege.

You are right Direct line underwrite Tesco insurance. When they first started they copied DL policies and discounted them to capture market share. Now they've got market share looks like the discounts have gone. Sounds like a good business to me, and if you've got people on direct debit not checking their premiums you can make a fortune.

Egg, Direct Line, Privilege and Tesco are all underwritten by Uk Insurance Group, hence the same look and very similar prices!

I was with Tesco, the renewal came up at £540. Went online and the best quote was Tesco @ £320 for the same policy
So I had to cancel my renewal and start a new policy with them.

Similar thing happened to me with my insurance company.....renewal was £270 more than a new policy with the same company. They eventually agreed to 'match' the price though!

Had a similar thing when getting a quote from insurance2000.co.uk one year. Thought their policy looked pretty good at £700, ...... till I noticed they were quoting MONTHLY !!! For and Sti 5 with no mods - I don't think so !!

A few years back we had a chap try to insure a 300zx he'd just purchased. He posted his tale on the forum. IIRC correctly, he was 19, the Zed was modified and kicking out about 400bhp. It was not left in a garage but did have an alarm on it. It was also an import. He had 2 previous bans for speeding and was currently on 6 points. Also speeding.

The highest quote he received was £999,999.00. I'm thinking they didn't really want his business.....

Yep - Tesco quoted me £450 (Per Annum) for my Renewal - ESure got the business at £290. Methinks somebody at Tesco has slipped on the "30% Margin for existing mugs" button again
