Default Is Tracker any good??

Hi all..

After reading some recent Threads, I am having second thoughts about renewing my subscription for it.
Has anyone got anything good to say about it??

Mark...

presumably your insurance is not conditional on having it?

Otherwise its probably one of those things - your scoob will be nicked within 24hrs of not renewing your subscription. Renew it and the angel of car theives will protect your car for another year.

There are also those amongst us, I'm sure, who would not want to see their car again if it got pinched......

On a more serious note, Direct Line don't currently require a tracker for my P1 insurance (which surprised me). But i'm looking to change insurers within a month or so and most companies insist on one being fitted.

Whether they're actually any use is another point entirely, too many Scoobs fitted with trackers have gone missing recently and haven't turned up again.

There was a rumour going back some time ago that if you covered a car (armed with a tracking device) with tin foil the signal from the tracking device is lost.

and NO its not been tried and tested, just makes you think its probably true as scoobies with trackers are pinched & never seen again.

Well I decided to 'test' out the tracker - by calling out subaru assist and 'forgetting' to tell tracker I was going to be recovered.

lo and behold 8 mins after the car started moving (in central london) I got called and asked if my car had been stolen.

So they do have a good response time on calling. Can't testify for the finding the car after it has been stolen luckily!

At least 2 P1's and a Type 25 have been nicked in the last month or so, none of the owners got a call to say the car was moving. One of the P1's was found burnt out a few miles away minus its wheels, the other P1 and the Type 25 i believe are still AWOL. I'm pretty sure all three had top of the range GPS and radio location trackers.

Bit worrying.

The gps version trackers seem to be poor or unrealible, but the standard tracker devices which dont use gps fair alot better. Topgear. I think a few years ago did a test with a tracker. It worked perfectly, they even found it when it was hidden in a metal cargo container.

How's that gonna help thieves get away? It's gonna be a bit memorable seeing a wrx disguised as a kitkat bombing through town.

Well my tracker worked ealier this year when i was car jacked.
The police chopper went up and they had the scumbag within 35 minutes.
End result.... he recieved a 5 year sentence.

I can only speak from my experience.

What trackers are you lot on about????

"tracker" as in Tracker Limited

or tracker as in Trackstar, Tracback, Guard One, Navtrak, Dan Track etc.

So if you have anything negative or positive...PLEASE BE SPECIFIC ON WHAT TRACKER SYSTEM YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!

Some are better than others you know! And it only helps to confuse people.

My tracker works fine as well, pin pointed my sti to the street it was in.
Oh and getting the car low loaded also triggers the thing.
