Default best place to get advanced lessons

ok - had a couple of scoobys over the last six years, done a handful of trackdays, played a lot of GT3, but lets face it, deep down in my heart of hearts I know I'm not exactly a brilliant driver yet. Where do I go - who do I pay to get some really good advanced lessons on how to drive fast? race school? rally school? skid training? etc. etc. time to put my money where my mouth is...

The first place that I would start if I were you would be the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists)

If he wants to learn to drive fast, not the IAM, I can only vouch from my brief experience with them, which was a total yawn.

Shame about that.

When I did my IAM test it varied from week to week depending on which 'observer' I went out with. Some weeks I would get a deadly boring session with someone obsessed with the millimeter perfect placing of my hands on the wheel. Thankfully I also enjoyed some brilliant, fast drives with observers who worked on my observation, planning, positioning, and car control. The IAM/Roadcraft system is virtually certain to be the basis of any worthwhile high-performance road driving course.

It can't be beaten for value-for-money.

I've done it - yes it's very good but very hard on your tyres. You are taught how to recognise the limits of grip and what happens when you exceed the limit. If you don't spin several times you're not trying hard enough but it's done on an airfield so no chance of hitting anything.

I learnt from first principles with John Lyon, and will continue taking lessons as long as he is still teaching. I would recommend him highly if you wish to learn, however sensitive / ego greater than skill people may not get along with him

Can get expensive, "Racecraft Course" with Private Skid Road, Dunlop handling and Mallory Park Circuit is GBP 869.50 inc VAT, and you have to build up to it
