Definite ban, 1 - 6 months, hefty fine

Possibly a re-test as well

Get a solicitor

Let us know how it goes

I thought over 35 or 40 was a definite ban
over 30 was up to the magistrate on the day

I agree with you that its not big or clever. However if he was on his own, as you say, how did he do you? If he used the speedo of his car to track you how do you know that he did that within the legal guidelines? How accurate is his speedo? Has he been trained to clock cars? Has his speedo been calibrated in accordance with police/government rules? Was he in uniform, on duty or off duty? There's a lot here you need to get behind.

You can probably get where I am coming from on this. Do 3 things; 1, get a solicitor, FAST, who specialises in this area. 2, go on to ukspeedtraps.co.uk (search google if i have the link wrong) and look up some good advice on there. 3, go onto the five-oh site, be honest and contrite, and seek advice as to how you could best deal with this situ.

Incidentally before the moral right-wing start kicking me I don't condone speeding, and yes, I would be unhappy if some loon killed a member of my family by pretending to be Schumacher on a public road. However we all make mistakes. The wise man learns from them.

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Cheers

WB

I'd agree. I did the same speed in a 50 and got 6 points and £1000, this from a totally clean licence.

Edited to say: you'll need to go to court, and I'd suggest doing as I did and getting the insurance company to pay for a solicitor. Well worth it.

Was it definately a 60 limit and not a 70?

94 in a 70 was 3 points and £60 fine for a mate of mine.

Hello again, whatever device he used my comments still stand. As I understand it these devices need a calibration certificate to go with them and they are meant to be calibrated each time they are used before the device goes out in a car.

You have been brave enough to hold your hands up on a public BBS. What I am saying is that I recognise that you are aware you made a mistake. Just make sure you were fairly done, that no corners have been cut, and that the officer acted correctly in every way. I wouldn't normally respond to this kind of thread; however I'm curious as to why the officer was on his own when you got done (they usually go out in pairs), hence my previous comments.

Good luck, I think you will need it. If you want any more info, PM me.

its a bypass it was along a short stretch of duel carrageway. but i dont think it counts as a 70 as it is only a short overtaking stretch. on the producer it said 60
anyway i am not trying to fight it i was in the wrong. just wanted your views on outcome. just seen this though. this was on the same stretch of road as the biker. http://www.safetycameraswiltshire.co.uk/

i got caught doing 96 in a 60 in 1997, also caught by an unmarked car. Initially I was threatened with dangerous driving but there was no mention of this when the NIP came through the post. Pleaded guilty by letter. 3pts - £100 fine.

i must say i think the copper was a decent bloke. he did not give me a hard time. i think the copper on his own thought i had stole it. i came out of town turned onto the bypass drove about a mile to the next roundabout and there was a marked car joining the roundabout and turning left i went right round the roundabout and went back the way i came to go back to work. they must have thought i saw the police car and was doing a runner. dont know where the skoda came from though.

I think you'll be hard done by to get banned for that from a clean licence, your going to have to lick **** like a good'un though - momemt of madness, will never happen again etc.

As mentioned already you will be best off with a specialist solicitor, they can make a world of difference.

And anybody that says "stupid, had it coming etc" then 94 on a bypass is hardly the end of the world is it?? If you aren't going to 90 odd now and then there is hardly much point in being on a performance car website is there??

Matt

Added to say before I get shot down in flames I have (and always have had) a clean license, and stick to 30 40 50 etc like glue, but I would be the first to admit to doing more than 60 on a quiet open NSL section of road!!

If it's a dual carriageway, and there is no other posted limit - then it is a SEVENTY!!!!!

You may get off on a technicality, if the NIP/Summons has an incorrect limit described - and at the very least, 94 in a 70 is probably not ban territory!

A duel is only classed as such if there is a central reservation between the two carriageways - if it is just two lanes going one way with a single lane in the opposite direction this is not classed as a duel - it's two lanes on a single carriageway, therefore 60 MPH.

I got caught on the motorbike four years ago. 98 in a 60. I ended up with 6 points and a £555 fine but no ban. The legal cover on my insurance covered me for a Solicitor.

91 in a 60 in 2001 - 5 points and £185 fine.

I wouldn't imagine you'd get a ban. Perhaps a larger fine though and maybe 4 points instead as i was a mere pauper when i commited the deed.

Flatmate got 3 points and a small fine for 98 in a 70. If you are in a 60 and was doing the speed you say you were then I would prepare for the worst and expect a ban and be pleased with anything else.

Next time try not getting caught.

I'm afraid that's rubbish. 30 over in a 70 limit and that is normally the case, but on lower limits not so.

Both myself and s'netter were done around the same time back in the summer for about 31 over and 34 over and both got 5 points and about a 200-250quid fine. One day, other night, both deserted bits of road with only a police vehicle around, different days, different courts, both of us pleaded guilty by letter highlighting the lack of traffic and good weather/road conditions and both had clean licenses before the events.

Assuming the road conditions were good (lack of traffic, dry, etc) and it is a first offense you should be looking at 5-6points and 250-500 fine. There is an outside chance you could get a short ban, but you'd have to be fairly unlucky IMHO.

Be warned though you will have to wait near enough 6 months to be given your court date, and the waiting is the worst part.

W 12 X T C also said dual carriageway (albeit with a common mis-spelling) and never mentioned the lack of a central reservation.

So lets hope that the limit is indeed 70, thus lessening the severity of any offence.
