Watched half the bonus DVD mon, followed by A New Hope.

Tues was other half of bonus and Empire Strikes Back.

Weds was Return of the Jedi.

Jobs a good un - and without doubt THE best films of all time EVER And in such good image and sound quality it was fapping superb watching them.

Just shows how much they got it wrong with the new ones

I can't believe how much better the new 5.1EX mix is over the old 5.1mix that was on the Jap NTSC Laser Disc.

Mr Lucas has obviously been hard at work.

Cheers

Can someone tell me what the difference is between the gold and silver box sets please? All I've seen are the silver ones in the shops (someone mentioned a gold version on another thread, Sith I think).

and they finally mad Vaders lightsaber glow when Luke shoots the blast doors closed. Hooray, I was livid when it was still metal looking in the new versions of the videos.

As far as the UK version goes the only difference is that HMV used "special edition" gold cardboard packaging as opposed to the standard silver. The actual contents of the dvds etc are exactly the same.

If you're importing the (Region 1) USA versions, then I think silver is normal 4:3 ratio, whereas gold is 16:9 widescreen....

Depends if you want to own three of the best (in its genre) films of all time. The transfer is excellent as well

Preordered mine from Amazon.co.uk and it only cost £24.99

Im going to pass judgement when i see The Emire Strikes Back again, For the video they went over the X-Wing cockpit because they were transuclent and you could still see the TA-TA's. But if you look carefully on the Special Edition version you could still see them, so ill have to see if they got it right for the dvd transfer

Anyone else notice the stormtrooper bang his head on the door in A New Hope!!

The storm trooper banging his head has been cut on mine. I am looking in the right place.

Its where c-3po and r2-d2 are in the control room of the death star. The storm troopers walk and find them in the cupboard.

Mine are the new ones, must of noticed it and cut it out.

Cheers Adam

Not watched ANH yet. Annoyed the tinkerman has been at that aswell. Always brought a smile to my face watching an ST whack his head.

(It's a SW thread, I had to post some time. )

The Stormie bumping his head is deff on the WS version (Silver box), if you have the Gold box 4:3 (pan and Scan) it may have been chopped of as its at the far right edge of the screen.

Personally I thought they'd overdone it, particularly with ANH. The colours are just too bright and unrealistic. I had to turn the colour down on the TV.

For example, the bit where Luke and his uncle are buying the droids. The sand is bright yellow, the sky bright blue, the other droid (R5D4, I think) has bright red markings and R2D2 has bright blue markings.

Just watched the 1st one again with my 6 year old son. Seeing his eyes go wide in wonder at X wings, tie fighters, lightsabers etc brings it right back how I felt when I first saw in it 77. I'm not a starwars geek or anything but seeing his face, listening to his questions all in that tone of wonder only a small child can must is now a precious memory.

People might moan about how Lucas spoiled the films etc, but my six year old cares not a jot. He's just gone to bed, as I went to bed nearly30 years ago with a head full of images and story that i'm sure he'll remember just as I did..
