Question Relaying turf...

..can you do it all year round?

Our gardan is rubbish. Theres a crappy rockery that we want gone, the lawn is more weeds and moss than grass, our daughter will be toddling soon so it needs addressing. We've had a few people round to quote to sort it all out - including new turf.

I've had conflicting advice from the experts regarding whether you can returf all year round (specificly can it be done in early October).

So if the experts can't agree, I'll put it to the collective oracle that is Scoobynet

I don't want my potential nice new lawn not to take and die on me

Educate me please

Many thanks

You should be ok to lay turf in early oct, you don't wanna leave it much later than that though, cos grass thats had it's roots cut off won't take too kindly to frost!

Now is actually a good time to do it. Still warm enough for growth but not so hot it dries out. We laid ours in the 2nd week of October 2 years ago and it took like a dream. Bloody thing keeps growing though.

Thumbs up

Thanks

I'm not the keenest gardener (been living in top floor flats for the past 12 years 'till now), but I've noticed the weeds grow quicker than the grass

I relayed my lawn through the winter. Our old lawn was up and down, so i turfed it all up, sliced the bottom of the turf so it was all the same thickness, ditched any weedy crap stuff and re-layed it. It grew back no problem.

Grass is very hardy and will take all sorts of punishment, all it needs is good watering to start off with and weed & feed twice a year.

Good luck

As an alternative, see if you have a local GreenThumb franchise. Has worked wonders on the dandelions and other crud that I inherited on my lawns.

My folks are very pleased with the results too.

Jay

I used Green Thumb as above.

My "lawn" ......laugh now.....was in a sorry state. They came and had a look one guy went around with some spray thing and the other with what looked like a dustbin shooting out a lot of little yellow pellets....... 4 weeks later and it's a different garden... with some sort of lawn !! 50 quid !!

OK... I'm sure it involved a lot a very deadly chemicals but what a transformation !!

re greenthumb, I don't care what they say in their blurb - weedkiller and babies don't mix!
