"Advance better technology" is a rough translation. But it is more of a saying so other people may have different views.

Cool

http://dict.leo.org is an excellent online dictionary that is maintained out of Stuttgart University, the translations are not always 100% but it is by far the best dictionary I have come across and we use it alot at work.

I thought it meant 'work makes you free', but I could of course be mistaken as there are so many popular German slogans out there...

Ok - so what does KDF stand for, and what does it mean??

And yes - the literal translation of Vorsprung Durch Technik is 'A leap forward through technology'.

It's late. The best I can come up with is "Get Dairylea by having fun".

A frustrated Austrian's interpretation of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's thoughts regarding personal freedom is extremely superficial...

AUDI is latin for "listen carefully". "Horch" is German for "listen carefully". Mr Horch's son was doing latin homework when he tried to come up with a name for the new company... no shït

I think that "Arbeit Mach Frei" was "work makes you free". It's certainly what was written on the gates of Auschwitz Birkenau, and the literal translation was "work makes you free", apparently it wasn't meant as an insult when it was put there, but I'm not so sure.

Personally I thought the audi slogan meant "look at uz, ve hav zee best technology!"

I was always told it was 'Progress through Technology', but I will bow to those with a far superior understanding of the German language than I have if 'Advancement Through Technology' is the better translation

I would've thought that the judicious use of a thesaurus would reveal that progress and advancement are one and the same thing and that either could easily be the translation of Vorsprung (which literally means 'forward leap' but there you go)

True enough - actually I thought 'progress' sounded better than 'advancement' but there you go
