Can I make any money out of Ebay???
Hi, am asking fellow s/netters the above question, I keep reading/hearing stories of people making big bucks on Ebay, buying frenzies, paying more for a product than it is to buy new and so on,
It all seems so easy!!!
So is it?
On a serious note am not looking to make a fortune, just want to see a little bit of extra cash in my pocket each month. Have got lots of stuff at home in loft/garage that someone might buy, books/cds and so on but to keep it going you need a steady supply of cheap but good quality goods I presume, where do you get them, car boot sales/buy of ebay and resell/friends & relatives having a clearout?
Is it best to concentrate on one particular type of product or do you sell whatever you can, also can you make enough to make it worthwhile for the time and effort needed.
I also hear that the bubble may have burst on this but feel it is worth having a crack to see how it goes, the stuff in my loft is dead money anyway so anything I get shut off is a bonus I guess.
Am a complete novice on this so any help or advice would be much appreciated
Cheers

No harm in listing some of you unused 'junk'. It's all in the write up, and how well your auction title draws people in.
As an example, I sold a used pair of 'blue-tint' H4 headlight bulbs for £15.50 simply by stating in the title that they were suitable as an upgrade for Saxos, Novas, etc., and providing a suitable Max Power-esque write-up.
On the other hand I've found Amazon Marketplace a good outlet for books that I have finished reading and CDs I no longer listen to, and have even managed to sell all my old PS2 games for between £1 to £3 profit. Adds up!

I am a Power seller on ebay - we sell IT services and IT consumables amongst other things and if you have the right products and know how to promote your items you can easily make a very good 2nd income from ebay. One word of warning though, ebay fees are not cheap IMHO, so whatver you sell your items for factor in the cost of the ad and the sale costs as they take a cut of the final sale costs also.
I started 3 years ago selling old household stuff ont here and progressed from their.. doing this you learn the do's and donts and how best to get your products under the noses of your potential buyers..
Go try it and see how you get on.. their is plenty of help online to help you get started.
hope this helps.. any questions PM me.

Funnily enough I came across a book today about how to do this...
Flicking it open randomly about half way through I discovered that to use Ebay I needed a computer! Well that knocked that idea on the head!

Ive probably made a couple of grand of ebay, Just selling stuff ive collected over the years. That intime would become worthless and I would of just thrown it away.
I have also bulk buyed items and sold them, microphones headphones, small things, you make a few quid here and there. (you can also lose out)
heres some advice.
It takes time, lots of it. taking photo's, making html auctions(you need to to make cash). packaging stuff, shipping it off, replying to mails.
Ebay and paypal fee's seem to be getting ridicolous. You need to take paypal or your auction will suffer people dont like paying cash or by cheque.
Postage costs, again seem to be getting more exspensive, i try to get small stuff through at work. I posted a box that weighed 5k this week and it cost £10. problem is if you would of put £10 postage costs no one would bid on it. this also doesnt include any bubble wrap ect you need to buy.
Things that sell well, Mobile phones, I get a new phone every 6 months and sell the old one Must of made 1k easy from that. same for accesories. Old computer parts, again the amount of stuff that sells for more than what it is new from a good supplier amazes me.
good luck.

you can normally upgrade your contract before the 12 months, the price depends on how long u have had the contract, and how much you pay on your bill... also what tariff you're on makes a difference.

MJN,
It seems people will pay way over the top for stuff, I've been watching for a particular tent (9 berth available at Argos), seen about 4 now, ALL second hand, one sold for £147 + £15 p&p (it's only £150 new !!!!)... do these people not have any brains ????.
Things that do get crazy prices seem to be mobile phones, if you can get hold of a few of those you can make a mint, (but watch the scammers).
Ian..
