Saw something about this on Discovery, there are a few of them, they are open cast mining machines in Germany, run on their electric motors & take 2 years to build (on site).

lol, at first glance, I thought the 2nd pic was of a giant circular-saw blade and the machine was some James Bond Baddie-esque contraption used for cutting tanks and stuff in half.

I was down at Aker Kvaerner today (Norwegian engineering firm) - they had a big brochure of all the things they make sitting in the reception area. Fantastic stuff. Mind you nothing quite a big as that!

And to think that the great Engineering minds that designed and built such machinery are only paid a fraction of what a footballer, actor, newsreader, etc. get!?
