Unhappy postal order/scam

Hi,
I am selling something on ebay and it is advertised privately aswell. Someone is offering to buy it privately but she is saying she going to pay for it with a postal order.
I obviously said money first then i will send the good, but she is "claiming" that i will not get the postal order for 3-4 days but i will recieve an approval(WTF?) before then which basically makes the money as good as mine. However, she needs to collect the good asap and so wants to collect it via fed ex on Mon or Tue.
I think this is a load of tosh, anyone no otherwise?
cheers in advance Kam

Hello

Well, I wouldn't let anything go without actually seeing the cash arrive in my account.

Steve.

Sounds like BS to me - anyone can go into a Post Office, buy a PO and sent it there & then. There's no 'approval' and it doesn't take any longer than the time taken to queue.

You're the seller - did you mention acceptable payment options in your ad?

ppl get themselves sooooooo confused with this stuff.

2nd hand sales are easy. when you have the cash in your hand or money shown in your bank you let the item go......before then you do not.

can you not ask for payment via Paypal which clears in minutes - the buyer could then have the goods asap

easier than a cheque or PO

send the emails to ebay and report them

These scams nearly always occur on items that are overpriced - not saying this item is, just my observations on this type of con. - the con artist then targets that item.

Its always available and the seller has had no interest at the price they want - an offer to pay the price wanted then plays on the sellers mind and all too often they give in to greed, and BANG, the trap snaps shut!

Never believe anything except numbers in your bank account!!

Sounds very dodgy.

I sold something on ebay recently.

Someone offered to buy from me privately, but then messed me about.

My winning bidder dealt with me through the correct ebay procedure and agreed to send me a postal order.

The postal orders arrived the next day, which I instantly cashed up at the post office (they are funny looking certificates that look as look best suited to the 1950's.)

Your 'buyer' is wasting your time.
