Thumbs down Ebay problem

a few of you may have read sum prev posts i made about a ebay auction, i cant find the other thread so i have made this one

basicaly i bought sumthing on buy it now and neer relised it was from the usa

the item is this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEBWN:IT

now i thought this might have been a possible scam or such, but a few people said not to worry as this seller has good feedback

anyway, i emailed him regarding payment, he is in the USA and wants a postal order, i am unsure about sending a uk postal order (can he cash it or what??) same about the cheques and stuff

no reply
i have scince emailed him 6 times and have never receaved a reply
last nite i am informed that hes notified ebay that i havent paid, so yet again i email him asking about the payment, his payment page says to ring his shop "mountain time" between certain hours,

wtf is mountain time????

once again the email is ignored, i log onto ebay just now and get a pop up telling me about Non payments and stuff

how would you approach this situation?
ebay will be as much use as a choclate fire guard, should i just ignore him and leave approp feed back?

i really could do without getting the bad feedback myself but the ignored comunications is leading me to belive that its what im going to end up with

FFS i actualy want the camber bolts, but im not sending a uk postal order when i dont even know if he can accept it or such, and scince the auction has finnished my trust in this person has seriously been hammerd down to the point where id rather not deal with him at all

help?

Mountain Time is GMT -7 at the moment. If you send him a cheque or postal order in Stirling he won't be able to cash it.

Ask for his bank details, take them to your bank and ask your bank to wire the money to him. That would be the easiest way.

Sticky - why don't you ask a nice scoobynetter to paypal the guy for you - just leave the note that they are paying for xxxx item for xxxx user - like a handling service.

Then fax him telling him what is going on.

my brother bought something on ebay without realising it was paypal only so i used my paypal to pay for it you just get someone to press the pay now button and it sends them to the link to login paypal and once they've paid it will show up in your "myebay" page as paid

MST is the timezone for the Mid-Western States.

Eastern Standard Time (EST) = GMT - 5
Central Standard Time (CST) = GMT - 6
Mountain Time (MST?) = GMT - 7
Pacific Standard Time (PST) = GMT - 8 (I'm on PST )

The US changes clocks forward and back just as the UK does. (As far as I know, that is true for all of the states)

Even if he is able to cash a postal order, you have no control over the conversion rate or conversion charge at the time and place he does so, so how can you know how much to make it out for???

Use Paypal or a credit card for this stuff, it's your best option. (Believe me, I've looked into this crap before)

But if he isn't replying to your emails, I wouldn't send anything - if he's genuine he should be talking to you and helping you work this out.

Look in your phone book for the international dialing prefix for the US, I think it's +01 but I normally dial the other way. A US phone number is of the format 1(xxx)yyy-zzzz, so if I'm right with +01 you should be dialing 011(xxx)yyy-zzzz but as I say, check in your phone book.

Bonkers.

.
totaly agreed there
the complete lack of comms is rather worrying, when he wasnt replying i thought that he had sumhow listed it on.co.uk by mistake instead of the american version and wanted to brush it under the carpet or sumthing

It pi$$es me RIGHT off when eBayers put their location as things like:

FAST SHIPPING FROM
United Kingdom

OK, so maybe you should have read the auction a bit more closely but I still think that sellers should NOT have the option to bugger around with things like that - it's downright misleading IMHO.

I've been using eBay for about 5 years and I STILL nearly get caught out by that kind of thing. Was the auction originally listed in Sterling? If so, **** him - I'd send him a postal order in pounds.

The worst he can do is neg you and it seems like he's going to go that way anyway.

FWIW, eBay's support is excellent. I had some issues where images from my company were stolen and used on someones poxy auctions. I emailled the seller with a firm but very polite email asking for the situation to be put right and got no reply. I filed a complaint with eBay and eBay closed all 120 of the n0bbers auctions within 12 hours!

Couldn't rate them highly enough to be honest. Sometimes you'll get automated responses, but they will always reply to you if you email from the address that you're given in the initial response.

yes the auction was in sterling which was the most misleading part, it even says its in the uk??

i have filed a complaint to ebay, we shall wait and see what they say, but ive had a think about it and that american jock socket, will not be getting £17 of my hard earned reddies no matter what, i actualy really want the parts, but its the principle of the matter, hes a tool, and he shall be treat like one.

Well UT is Utah, an American State (as in Salt Lake City, Utah) - doesn't make sense to have 'United Kingdom' on the end.

Edit: Hmm, looking at the actual auction, the 'United Kingdom' part is in grey, could that be something eBay appended automatically? An auction targetted at English scooby owners? That's what it looks like to me. Doesn't explain the lack of communication though.

Bonkers.

Item location: AMERICAN FORK, UT
United Kingdom

Postage and Packing:
(first item) £2.50 (within United Kingdom)
Buyer pays for all postage costs
Cost per additional item: £1.00

This auction is presented as a United Kingdom auction!!!

Something is seriously wrong with this item.
Complain LOUDLY to Ebay!!!
This rip off needs sensured !!!

Ask Ebay how an American Fork, Utah represents himself as being in United Kingdom!!

Good luck, us Yanks don't need any more flack!!!

I have once again read the auction particulars.
It is a UK auction!!!
But several things are very strange about it.
I think the guy has improperly listed his items.
I've never seen one approached in this manner.

Once again, THOROUGHLY report this to Ebay!!!
Good luck!!!

You're not the only one mate.
I bought an item on "buy it now". Supposedly a UK auction. I then found out by email it was coming from USA. "Stocks are currently depleted" is apparently their answer. I mailed and asked why then were they continuing to sell five per day on Ebay. I asked for a refund, still waiting after nearly five weeks. (They have 3653 pos feedback)

Too right - it couldn't be much MORE misleading if you ask me and HE'S been the idiot by putting the auction in Sterling too.

He can have no cause for complaint - if he is in the USA, why didn't he say so?! Why did he 'lie' by saying he is in the UK?

Stick to your guns mate - you've filed the complaint and as he is a member of eBay Staff, I'm almost certain that eBay will want to get this sorted without upsetting a customer.

Keep us posted mate.

You can't have much experience of ebay if you believe that!

Ebay care about one thing, and one thing only.

Wrong FP, very wrong. I have been using eBay for 5 years and have always found their assistance to be swift and just. If someone's broken the rules (of which, deliberately misleading Auctions, is one) eBay are usually very strict in seeking justice.

As I said in a previous reply "Sometimes you'll get automated responses, but they will always reply to you if you email from the address that you're given in the initial response".

You've been lucky, then.

True, they do (eventually) reply with a proper email but they won't get involved unless they really have to.

All their systems (for sellers) are geared up to making it as hard as possible
to get a response from them. And it takes friggin ages to get your money back when you get the **** that is the non-payer.

Still, it's an easy way to make a few quid...
