Switch -> Maestro (grrr)
Anyone else seen the adverts about Switch debit cards being renamed Maestro (i.e. the European debit system)?
Why do we always have to conform to foreign brands?
Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned I shall be continuing to pay by SWITCH, eating MARATHON bars and cleaning with Jif!!!!!

We are all paid in Euros where I work. I can easily travel around neighbouring countries without being ripped off by banks and have a *very* cheap mortgage.
I seem to recall the Switch is signature-based and therefore easily subject to fraud and time-consuming at the point of purchase. The European EC card system on the otherhand has payments by PIN and not signature and is therefore more secure and a lot faster of course.
Horses for courses I suppose. I you want to stick with antiquated methods, then I'm sure nobody on the mainland really cares.... :P

Who cares what it's called as long as I get my money! Think there are worse things in the world to worry about right now than the name of the piece of plastic in my wallet.......

Casting my mind back to my banking days, I believe Maestro was the original system deployed throughout Europe (formerly the EC card). Switch was simply the UK name for it (your guess is as good as mine, as to why they chose a different name). As Dave said, your Switch card has always carried the Maestro symbol on the back which means you were able to use it in any outlet displaying the symbol. Nothing has changed really - apart from the name.
