Default think maybe ripped of on ebay, maybe royal mail, will police help?

long story short won something on ebay it cost me 356 quid inc postage, sent cheque cheque cleared, tap at the door got all excited as to my new toy arriving

opened box and theres a brick in there!!!!!!

the box does look like its kinda been opened and resealed as two diff tapes so either the sender done it on purpose to make it look like was stolen by someone in royal mail or some postman fookin nicked it!!!

now the sender has proof of postage etc naturally and i recieved the parcel obvioulsy

so what the hell can i do?

im really gutted and the seller is quite firm that the item was in the box

Surely ebay will help, report it, they should sort the details between you and the seller.

Whatever you do, DO NOT try & use their "complaints/arbitration" system cause it's ****e. My hubby brought a ring from a seller and within three days all the stones fell out. We tried to claim through arbitration service but it was sooooo long winded and they tried to charge US for it!!!!!

Post office are pretty helpful - maybe ask post office where it was sent from if they remember it?

If you need any help, PM me as I am also an ebay seller, but my hubby's been a postman for over 20 years and may be able to find out what you can do.

Don't ebay display sellers information now like address etc? Home him and see what he says.

Forget the police, they won't give a care.
Contact the Post Office. If the item was sent insured you should be covered but I don't know the whole procedure as I've only ever claimed one recorded letter in my time.
Check the sellers feedback and look to see if they are from being a seller or buyer. If he has mainly bought stuff is it all cheap little items, which a lot of fraudsters use to create some feedback quickly and cheaply.

I am sure I have read something like this before, however I think that it was a case where someone was being scammed by one of those people relying on a cash exchange.

I would be inclined to suspect a scam, and that the item was never in the box in the first place as I doubt that someone in the post office would have the opportunity to do this without being caught.

However you need to complain to the Post Office s they can investigate. By the way do you have the senders home address and a landline number?

I was ripped off for a similar amount on Ebay. I got all the evidence together, photocopies of everything, Made a statement to the local police, etc. They sent it off to the force involved and after over a year and 5 telephone calls to them, I have heard nothing about the outcome. When I phone the officer concerned is never in, and they say they will ring back and never do.

Get the package weighed at the post office and check the weight against what was sent.
TBH - the only thing you can do is claim on post office insurance - that’s if you did have insurance.

that was also my thoughts too mate but po do not put the weight on the parcel, i think they work along the lines of 1-2kg 1quid, 2-3 2quid etc etc

i remember in the past sending parcels they weigh it on scales and quote a price so that wont really help me

yes i have the senders name address tel numbers etc etc he happily gave them to me

well the police will be too busy prosecuting people for doing a few mph over the speedlimit Seriously though that sucks. I would report it to ebay though just to cover yourself from any comeback.

Blimey! Do you know whether the item was sent Royal Mail Special Delivery? If so, it's barcode scanned at most of the stops along the way - including the delivery person.

If it had insurance and is trackable, it seems very silly for a postal work to try to nick it - they should be able to trace most of the people who handled it on it's route. I'd have thought that your usual thief would go for an easy option and steal something that seemed expensive but DIDN'T have insurance/tracking cover...

worth pointing out that sending people £££ in the post who you dont know on the assumption they will send you something back is not wise.

this is not an ebay issue its a buying 2nd hand issue. dont deal by post unless you can afford to loose it.

Was it obviously something of value in the package - if not somebody was taking a big gamble opening it up to see. Also I'm not sure that many Royal mail employees carry bricks to work!

does the weight of the brick corispond to the amount of postage paid & the item you purchased?

Don't let one bad experience put you off, keep on buying from ebay, hopefully next summer you'll have enough for a BBQ.

Apologies in advance, shouldn't take the **** really. there are some crooks about, I would have to collect for that kind of cash.

They stick the postage cost on the parcel so all you need do is weigh it yourself and at least see if the postage and weight correspond. If they don't at least the seller will be in the clear.

If it does turn out to be the seller it would be funny if you went to his house and chucked the brick through his window with a note attached saying 'Return to Sender'.

Not that I'm saying you should do this!!!!
