What makes you think that he was over the drink drive limit???? Or is that just a bit of added spin?
In situations like these no one is a winner, and there is nothing to glaot over by anyone. We have all driven dangerously before.......I think anyone who says they havnt is lying, especially folk who drive fast cars.....I find your attitude strange ......wonder if youd be so glad if YOU had been the driver......
Im not saying feel sorry for Hughes....

i have no sympathy what so ever for people who drink and drive.... PERIOD
If he was sober he would have stayed at the sence until police arrived and provided them with a breath test, but no he ran like a chicken and hid for 36hrs, just enought time propably to make sure he wouldn't fail when he gave himself up

Do you have sympathy for those who kill others through reckless use of speed? If they are sober, is that ok?
Drunk drivers are an easy target......but reckless speeding, of which many on here partake, has equally fatal consequences.....
Neither is right.

Apparently it was shock - bollocks it was, he was probably pissed up and thought he might be able to get away with it!
6 years = 3 years = nowhere near long enough!
My brother was nearly killed by our uncle, he got a small fine by the courts and a further fine by the navy and that was it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

It hasn't been proven one way or another he was drunk...
Witnesses describe how Lee Hughes had been drinkng with freinds.
Had he been drinking? The answer to that is, unquestionably yes, because when interviewed, he said to the police that he had

2 Jack Daniels is enough to put you over the drink drive limit. Period.

Radio news told how he had been seen drinking up to 6 pints in the previous 90 mins. He left the scene, leaving his car and passengers, and hid away from his own house for a day and a half.......come on....of course he was p1ssed
Deserves everything he gets, and then some.

This is interesting.
So, if :
1) He wasn't a celeb/famous footballer
2) He wasn't drunk
3) He didn't abandon the scene
...should he still get 6 years?
The point is, plenty on here recklessly speed on public highways on a regualr basis (and admit to it). If they kill someone, are they equally entitled to 6 years?
Or are we kicking this man in the teeth because he's a footballer and deserves it, or because he fled the scene?

His leaving the scene would be an aggravating feature of the dangerous driving. 6 years in my opinion is not excessive for causing death by dangerous driving with the added aggravating feature. So if what you are saying is "is he being punished for being famous", I don't think he is.

Just always bemused by the people that have a high horse about drink-driving, yet excessive speed & dangerous manouveres in high performance cars seems "ok".

And the other side of the coin too, the lorry driver who killed 4 members of the same family was fined a £1,000 and banned for 12 months, only last week

OK, let me explain....
Which of these is worse :
1) Was driving the Penrith to Alston road at the weekend, having some great fun on all the twisties, really giving it some in a battle with this Evo7. Reached 100mph+ at some points. Got home safely.
2) Was driving the Penrith to Alston road at the weekend, having just had a couple of pints in the pub. Drove home below 60mph all the way home so as not to attract attention. Got home safely.
Which is worse, and why?
PS in case of doubt, the above is a theoretical scenario I posted as devil's advocate - sorry if that wasn't clear!

From his own admission he was over the drink drive limit anyway. The talk of him snorting coke on that night too was never offered in court.
Even leaving those 2 possible scenarios out of the equation, Hughes was driving too fast for himself to be capable of stopping the car.
I know the road very well, I also could guess at what happened, especially as Hughes said the brakes didn't work. The brakes did work but with the sheer speed over the crest trying to keep left down to the junction, the Mercs ABS was triggered giving him that scary feeling you get when that unexpectedly happens.
The uneven road, speed and weight transfer to the front would have made him launch forward. The fact he probably has more money than driving ability/experience of powerful cars didn't help that he just drifted into the Scenic coming the other way.
Leaving the scene has no defence, despite Hughes claiming shock he still managed to organise his exit and accommodation for the next 36 hours.
Of course he never meant it to happen but he acted like a twát, and twáts need to be punished, he got all he deserved.
A few families were wrecked that night, his own family will suffer too.

He fled the scene & left a man to die. His excuse is that he was in shock after hitting his head on the sun visor!!!! He pays a top legal team so that he doesn't have to face the truth. He is an excuse of a human being & a man IMHO.
