The same statement could be said of many Scooby drivers! The Merc and Scooby are both well capable of causing the same accident.

That's not an odd statement in the slightest. For starters I said "probably" and not "for certain".
Yes the same statement could be said for anybody but what's your point, apart from keeping your crown of prize cóck of the night again?

My assumption makes up my posting, that's what a bbs is for.
You really are hard work. You must even bore yourself silly at times.

The point I am trying to raise is how drunk driving is seen as something thoroughly nasty, compared to undrunk reckless speeding, which is more accepted.

Why do you see countless threads on SN revolving around boasting of excess speeds, etc, and yet none boasting about excessive drinking before driving?

Did Hughes get the same sentence as if he'd been drink driving? If not, that could encourage drink drivers to flee the scene for 23 hours and 55 minutes just to make sure they are back under or clear of the limit. Surely the fact that he was gone for so long indicates just how drunk/drugged he really was.

You like to think my posts are assumptions, but that is only because I usually present the opposing, and sometimes unpopular, viewpoint which many on here don't agree with (this being a car BBS).

Your view is only unpopular because you often bang on and on like a small child about something different to the original thread.
Offering the opposite viewpoint to the norm is healthy and constructive, you sometimes get it right.
