Thinking of doing the cannonball.
Its pure coincidence that I have a marketing summit in monaco on the 20th sept, and I was planning to hire a sexy car and leave on the friday and do the drive down, via some tasty roads.
Found out today the cannonball is doing exactly the same!!
Seriously tempted. Sponsorship won't be a problem given my industry and my clients, just need to get someone to lend me a fast car.
Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone done it? Tips? Advice?

Just one tip mate....
Take me!!
Seriously though, I have thought about it for a long time, and even looked into the 'Britball' event run around Britain for a while. It would be an awesome adventure, so if you go for it, best of luck and enjoy it!! Don't forget to let us know how it went though!!

I'm more concerned about the 'image' of the event and the kind of people that are going to be there. If it's enthusiasts, cool, if its braying tarquins I'm not so interested.
Wonder if Litcho will lend me a T25....

My nephew bought a cheap (£5k) bog standard '94 WRX, had it serviced and did the Cannonball run. He thrashed the nuts of the thing and came 23rd out of 60-70 entries? He reckoned on the twisty bits in the mountains the Porkers and occasional Ferrari were holding him up. On the straight bits he would settle at 120 and needed to fill the tank every 45 min! This is from someone who never had a Scoob before and knew nothing about them. My advice about tyres, fuel grade and the sense in carrying octane booster seemed to go over his head. (Maybe if he had taken notice he might not have done so well!)
He recently got rid of it as it was putting points on his licence faster than the M3's he had before!
As for the event - he loved it!

John - sounds great, perhaps I should see if I can tap Mike Wood for the press WR1 for a SIDC mag feature article...

I've always wanted to do that, so my advice would be go for it!!!
Everytime my mate gets pi$$ed he says we should do it, but doubt we ever will!!
If you get the opportunity, then do it. Can't help with a fast car though unfortunately!
If you can get it all paid for by someone else then all the better!
Cheers
