Do Londoners have a high opinion of themselves?
Are Londoners full of bull and find it impossible not to exaggerate?
I am having a dispute with girls at work (Northampton) who have no respect for Londoners and just want to laugh at them. In their experiences Londoners rarely speak the truth.
They think I am blind (being from London) and can't see that they are all the same.
I think that most Londoners are normal people.
I need some support from fellow southerners as I have no one to back me up at work (midlanders).

I'm a midlander but half the family are from cockney-land.
IMHO, you will always get the bulls**tters wherever you go. Just depends on the people. My family (although I'm biased here) are a lovely bunch of people, with only a couple of my uncles being the ones with the tall tales.
I'd say the other half of my family (from Brum) are worse for bulls**tting but I just find it entertaining
How many Londoners have they met? They might have just had some bad experiences.
Having a high opinion of themselves and exaggerating may well be two different things. I'd agree that a lot have a high opinion of themselves, but wouldn't agree that they all exaggerate (from the Londoners I've known).

I'm from Hertfordshire, have lived in London and now live in North Yorks. It seems to me to be generally more socially acceptable to have a low opinion of southerners if you are from oop north, just as it is generally considered to be socially acceptable to have a low opinion of northerners if you live darn sarf
I've found there's not much difference between folk regardless of geography. There's good and bad, friendly and unfriendly, b*llsh*tters & non-b*llsh*tters wherever you go. The only thing that really seems to change is the accent

Bull****ters are prevalent no matter what region.
In the 2 years I lived in London I found many not all, to be arrogant and self-serving. There were also plenty who thought that a northern accent meant you were of lower intelligence and might possibly steal things from them . Many Londoners would benefit from spending a week or so in other UK cities.

"In their experiences Londoners rarely speak the truth"
How many of the 7 million inhabitants of London have they spoken too. Making sweeping generalisations is daft. Arseholes and bull$hitters exist in all walks of life and in all parts of the country.
The only thing I would say is that London is very 'impersonal' - the pace of life is such that no one has any time for people. They certainly appear less friendly than other areas of the country. Having worked all over the UK, in my experience, it always seems to be the case that once you are outside London, people are more willing to chat.

Chris, that was another point that I forgot about. This so called "pace of life" - its the same everywhere, yet Londoners seem to think that only London moves fast.
I am currently back in Manchester and the only difference between pace of life is you can't pick up tomorrows newspaper at 11pm (unless you go to one of the supermarkets near Trinity press in Chadderton)

Londoners are insular IMHO
Having a chat with a guy I deal with in London about my new car. Said I was picking it up from Worcester. He asked how long that would take to get there and I said about hour and half. He said he would never go outside of London to buy a car, he said he had everything he could want within the M25 so why should he go further afield?
I said he should get a life and realise there's more to life than what's within the M25......

Londoners do have a high opinion of themselves and are generally proud to call themselves Londoners - Just the same as most folk from other Regions are about themselves and their Regions. The big problem is that when Londoners do it it's Arrogant but when Geordies, Brummies or Manchester to$$ers do it it's Proud Northern Folk.

Hmmmm ...
johnnie_m, are you from London, you're being ironic, right?
As a group is a single entity, not plural, you should have written, the only group that understands punctuation comes from London. I know that's grammar not punctuation, but equally important.
Nice evidence
It appears, judging by the above responses, the only group that understands punctuation come from London.

Couldn't agree more. As soon as someone mentions 'I live in/am from London' you can pretty much guarantee that they've an ego the size of Bill Gate's bank balance and view any non-london dwellers with either pity or utter disdain. Much prefer, for example, Leeds or Manchester myself - cleaner city, generally a nicer class of people and a whole lot less attitude IMO.
And London itself is a complete ****-hole tbh...............
