Anyone been to Egypt ?
Thinking of going away early next year with the girlfriend for 7 days. Has anyone been and can they recommend a good tour company to go with ?
Ideally fancy a few days cruising on the Nile, then staying at a hotel with excursions to the major sites : Pyramids, Luxor, Valley of the Kings etc...
Haven't really got a massive budget so looking for a good priced package too!
Cheers

its your lucky day!!
we went in 2000 for our honeymoon
did a weeks nile cruise with excursions & stayed for an extra week in luxor
the nile cruise & excursions was all in (cept drinks) but they were reasonable
£125 e for the week -- 2 people thats egyptian pounds div by 5 for sterling!!!
the week in luxor was bed & B in a 4 star hotel meals again reasonable..
we payed extra for the trip to abu simbel & to cairo for the day Pyramids & museum
all in it cost each of us £660 excluding abu simbel & pyramids (bout 300ish extra) (2 sharing) and i checked this year and it hasnt gone up much either oh and we had a room upgrade on the boat go for upper deck , less noisy
we used Kuoni to do it,, they had a special brochure, not one of there top what jobs, but a mid range package
cant complain.. but you will see what some of the top packages are like when your out there...£5000 plus for a week!!!!
if you want a reasonable package then the mid range is for you..
be prepared for a culture shock though... but once your over that, the sights are fantastic!! i should know , i shot over 36 rolls of 35mm film!!!
good hotels are the hilton & there are a couple others
we stayed at the mecure behind the luxor temple beds were lumpy but we wernt worried..

Been twice. An amazing country. The culture shock will make you think you've landed on anther planet. Be aware of touts selling/offering to show you stuff - can become very tedious. Never booked a tour myself. Always stayed at the Lotus Hotel in the centre of Cairo. £5 a night. Total Luxury. great rooms, includes breakfast, bar, very colonial in appearance. Lots of fellas wearing white dress type things serving you and looking to help you any way they can. Superb.
The level of poverty you can come across is sad. A mate saw an old lady sat on the floor selling 3pr of dirty knickers. It was his last day so he gave her the equivalent of thirty quid. She burst into tears got up and hugged him until he had to gently force her hands from around him.
