Default Pleasantly suprised (rock music)

Was in the local CD store at the weekend mulling over what new stuff was around and decided to pick up "Redefine" by Soil and "Believe" by Disturbed just purely on a whim. Turns out both albums are quite good

I was expecting Disturbed to be along the lines of Cradle of Filth, Slipknot, System of a Down but they are actually quite melodic. Nice one chaps !

Dude - you've only just discovered Disturbed??:O:

Latest purchase was by Chimaira - The Impossibility of Reason (buy this, it's vital!) and InFlames - Soundtrack to your escape (very disappointing and not to be recommended)

Yup, late again to the party phil !

Makes mental note to watch Scuzz more often, Kerrang seems to have gone a bit MOR

Chimaira eh? Not heard 'em so time for some more new stuff ! Yippee !

Jason - ripped the album to my iPod using AAC but you can check out some streamed choons here: http://members.lycos.co.uk/disturbed01/audio.htm

Reckon their first album is on my shopping list as well

I'd recommend Disclaimer by Seether, recently released in the Uk for the first time.

Yup, great tune too, although not sure it's on that album as it's been out a while. It's on the Punisher OST though, shame most of it's turd !!!

System of a Down can be very melodic - Chop Suey is a superb song

Cool

I did actually mention Disturbed in that other thread from a few months ago Frenchie.

I even linked it for you at the time.

That'll teach you.

My Dying Bride - takes me back a few years, 'Like Gods of the Sun' is a classic album!

Similar in vain (the brit goth/death metal scene) try Paradise Lost (ignore any albums after Draconian Times) and Anathema.

My Dying Bride - The Angel and The Dark River

Try this one for starters **gets a thunbs up from me**

As for Paradise Lost, Draconian Times is THE one to have...

I remember buying a Paradise Lost album quite a long time ago - "Icon" I think it was called. I still have it in my collection somewhere but faintly remember not being too impressed when I listened to it. Maybe it's time to dust it off again and give it a spin...
